I just updated to N360 multi-device today for my PC and Android phone. I had N360 just for my PC before this. I've lost a couple weeks subscription but that's OK.
This all started when I downloaded a Windows 7 gadget for monitoring processes. I'm sick of svchost.exe chewing up my HD every time I turn my PC on!
Anyway - when I run what I thought was a gadget install it downloaded stuff. N360 immediately popped up a few windows blocking viruses. And yet somehow they got through. I deleted the gadget. Now IE11 had 2 new addons - youtubeadblocker and ssafeplus. N360 repeatedly blocked these. I tried uninstalling them from the windows installed programs, but every time I ran the uninstall on them N360 blocked a virus. In the end I had to search my system for these and manually delete them. Then ran regedit and searched for any references and deleted them too. I had to remove something called topprocessmonitor and "fbquicklogin for multiple facebook" too. That took all afternoon. Now when I open IE11 my homepage and search have been hijacked to something called mystartsearch.com. I deleted all I could find from my system and the registry. I looked in Norton's startup manager - nothing there. I reset IE11 deleted history and everything. I even ran Norton Power Eraser - it didn't find anything wrong??!!
Now what do I do??? And why didn't N360 block this???
This is the web site that started it all - http:// www. myfavoritegadgets . info/ monitors/ TopProcessMonitor/ topprocessmonitor .html
I don't feel entire safe that I have removed everything else - I have no way of knowing it something else is lurking around ready to strike without warning. I might have to restore using a backup image or even just format my main HD and start from scratch - at least then I can be sure. Looks like I can't rely on N360 to stop this sort of thing.
