Home Page

Can anyone tell me if the Home Page can be configered to appear automatically on the screen at each startup?  Thanks.

Hello covenanter

Welcome to the Norton Community Forum

This is usually taken care of in the browser. Go to Internet Options, General and there should be a space where you can enter your home page. This is for IE 8, but I would think that FireFox would have something similar. Thanks.

Re. my earlier posting which should have been worded - any way to have the Norton Home Page automatically open & show on the Desktop at each startup. Sorry to those who replied to the original posting.

Hi covenater,

Can you tell us which browser you use?  Also,  Do you want  http://www.norton.com as your home page?

Thanks,  Dave.

Hi covenanter

Would you by any chance mean the Norton Control Panel is what you would like to

have automatically open and display each time you startup your computer-

If so i do not think that is possible, but i may be wrong.:smileyhappy:

Cheers.:smileywink:

PS Might have to wait a little while for moderator to check image.:smileyhappy:

I could be wrong but I believe covenanter is asking if there is a way on Windows startup to have the browser automatically launch and go to the home page.

covenanter, is this what you are asking for?

Best wishes.

Allen

Hi krusty 13. Thanks for your reply. No - it's the Norton Control Panel that I would like to automatically open & display on the Desktop at each startup exactly as smithy has posted. I used a certain broadband providers security software until a few days ago (based in the U.K. & which will rename nameless) but they have introduced an updated version which is causing users all sorts of really bad problems. Luckily for me I heard about the problems before I downloaded the new version & decided to go over to Norton which I thing is great. Hi smithy- thanks & yes, exactly as you described - with my previous provider you could set the Control Panel to open at each startup & this is what I would like to be able to have happen with Norton. Hi AllenM-thanks to you too. This Forum is great! Thanks again to all.

HI covenanter,

You mention some other security software which was having a lot of problems so you switched over to Norton. I need to ask what this other security program is. Did you uninstall it and use a removal tool to ensure its complete removal prior to installing Norton? If you did not do this you could have problems with Norton.

If you tell us what the other security program is we can help you find a removal tool to ensure it is removed completely.

Also you never did say, what Norton product do you have? And what is the version? You can find the version from Support > About. What version of Windows and SP do you have and is it 32 or 64 bit?

Assuming you have NIS 2012 for example you can probably get the main NIS window to appear at startup as follows. Navigate via Windows Explorer to C:\Program Files\Norton Internet Security\Engine\19.2.0.10 and find the program called "uistub.exe" and create a shortcut for this program and add the shortcut to this to the startup folder. I think this will accomplish what you want.

NOTE that some of these directories may be hidden so you will probably need to unhide some of them.

See the following for how to add programs to the startup folder.

Again, let's also deal with the other security software you mentioned as I have a concern it may not have been removed properly.

Hope this helps.

Best wishes.
