Hi.
Just curious - How can a Keylogger Crusher become a *guru* at that level?
Isn't it when you surpass the top rank?
TIA

At least!
Hi -
I have seen a Super Spyware Scolder and a Super Spyware Scolder - GURU
(Sounds like it's from Dr. Seuss)
How can that be?
From the "gurus" we know, I suspect that they are particularly knowledgeable, patient, put the good of the user with a problem first. Huwynger said that a requirement was a "thick skin," and someone else advised that common sense was a job requirement. I also suspect that it is more by invitation than by working the forum for kudos and solutions.
I think all of our gurus are great, no matter the rank.
I could be wrong though, I have my suspicions about the "rankerator."
To clarify, Guru is a 'badge' that applies in addition to your rank. There is a formula that applies to determine when a user earns the badge.
It is theoretically possible for a user to obtain the Guru badge as low Spyware Scolder, however in practice it would take an extraordinary poster to have achieved the other requirements by that level. Many (but not all) of the requirements needed for Guru will be achieved around the time the user passes the Super Phishing Phryer level.
I've been asked often about this in PM's from a user that has not yet posted in this thread, one of the things to understand is that the variables used in the normal rank up formula are all discrete and based on a users clicks and actions, either by the user themself or by another user (giving kudos, marking a solution, etc). The formula for the Guru 'add-on', is more complex, it may take into account some counts not normally seen publicly, such as moderator kudos and/or ratings of post content. The formula is written in such a way that a single moderator can not influence the outcome. It also isn't clearly defined publicly who is rating, just to be clear, I did say "moderator kudos" above, but by design we have not clearly defined who's kudos are counted that way, again this is done in an effort to be fair and impartial. (It is a sub-set of Red names at this point).
The factors for advancement in most cases are positive, in general negative items are ignored. There are however some tamper protections built into the system. For example if a user creates a second account to apply kudo's or manipulate the solved count, this is detected. For the first few instances, these simply cancel each other out, but as it continues it can actually work against you even within the standard ranks.

Why would they bother doing that? You can get a title, but the knowledge and skill you can not fake! Thanks for the explanation Allen.

To Kudos! their other User Name so they can try and go up the Ranks quicker?

Theoretically possible hahahaha
Quads
I like the way, mo writes that. Since having a title is kind of a reward for achieving certain parameters but one would assume a special title such as Guru would show people that have an excellent working knowledge of a product or products as well as a behind the scenes knowledge of why the programs work the way they do instead of what I am able to do, guessing based on my own experiences and playing with a program. I would think most people that can quickly diagnose an issue and offer straightforward suggestions based on this knowledge can more quickly move towards this title.
I remember when I began visiting the forum that I thought a title such as Spam Squasher was significant of what the persons particular ability was. Like I would have emailed that person for advise on keeping spam at bay :)
Basically a way of telling the people that have had a hgigh level of recognised success in helping resolve issues and help in general, so I would summize.
