How can I check if the Norton 360 I bought is genuine?

Hi, this is my first post, so I'm hoping you can help me, and that I don't sound too stupid? :smileysad:

I, somewhat stupidly, bought a brand new Norton 360 v.3 (2 year subscription) from Ebay, and I received instructions to download the program along with the activation key. Everything went smoothly, until about 90 days after installation, when Norton seemed to disappear from my Laptop (MS Vista). I could still access the support function direct from the installed program, and through this I managed to find a Tech Support phone number, but was a little bit hesitant to call it, as I was suspicious of the program.

I tried to go to www.norton.com/n3_360s which is where I was told to download the program from, and Internet Explorer just kept saying that it could not display the web page. At this point I'm becoming more and more suspicious.

I then tried to go to My Norton Account, but this seems to have been registered to an email address that is not mine, so I can't change any settings on my son's computer (Windows XP)!!

Basically what I am asking is two-fold

1. How can I determine that the product I bought is genuine? Is this possible?

2. Even if it is genuine, am I still safe to use it, given that the person who sold it to me may have registered it to their My Norton Account.com

I look forward to you all telling me what an idiot I've been!! :smileysad:

Kind regards,

Philmo

Hi Philmo,

Welcome to Norton Community!

First of all, there is less possibility to get a genuine Norton program through Ebay. The seller may have given the same product key to many others. We have discussed this on one of our previous threads:

You can say that you are using a genuine Norton program only if the Product Key is registered under your Email address. You can contact the Customer Service regarding this, they will be able to provide more information:

The problem you have on your computer is not related to the Ebay. It can happen if the Norton program is not properly installed or due to virus.  Since you are unable to download the installation file on your computer, I think that the virus is blocking your access. I would suggest you to try to download the installation file on some other computer, and transfer it to your computer via CD/Flashdrive. You can uninstall the current installation using the Norton Removal Tool,  you can download it from this LINK. Restart the computer and run it 2-3 times, restart the computer each time after you run it. Then reinstall Norton 360.

Yogesh

Hi philmo

I would definitely contact customer support about this issue to first see if you bought a valid program thru eBay. If you buy any program thru eBay, you have to buy only sealed, boxed, new versions of programs. Since it only worked for 90 days, what you may have received is a 90 day trial of the program.  After contacting customer support to find out about if the key you have is a valid unused key or one that is registered to you, if you find it isn't registered to you, then I would contact eBay and this seller and tell them that what you bought from them wasn't a unused product and you want your money back. Was this buyer a reputable seller with a good rating?

Hi, Thanks for that Yogesh and Floplot, I guess my only course of action is to contact Customer Support, and hope I'm OK!!

Thanks again for your prompt responses,

Phil

Philmo, you are not an idiot. This sort of thing happens all the time to lots of people. Just remember, if a deal seems too good to be true, it probably is!
