Dear ViralM,

Ah...Interesting feature!!!!.....Now I know what the IDLE feature is for.

Thank you.

P/S :- About a week ago, when Idle time is on, Norton will notify me.  However, the notification suddenly disappeared. The SILENT MODE is OFF.

Thank you

Dear Norton Experts,

Can you advice if there is any way I can config the LiveUpdate & Pulse Update.  It seems that there aren't any ways to control the updates timings.

Everytime, I logged into the internet, Liveupdate do not update itself automatically until I manually click it.

Thank you

I do not like the Idle Feature as it does not have enough Options and Users are being forced to run Idle Quick Scan or "Idle" Quick Scans, i.e. whenever Protection Updates, i.e. Virus Definitions, have been recieved, or when the computer is idle; there should be an extra sub-heading for this will all the Background Jobs listed with Options to turn them off and on; if OFF, that Feature should NOT run.

Just thought I would mention this since it was mentioned here.  :)

True...Floating_Red,

I think there should be more options in Idle features, but considering that almost all features in NIS is only OFF & ON, I would also think Symantec preferred users "not to maddle" with the Idle feature.

On the other hand, I kind of missed LIVEUPDATE options.  Previously, I was able to "experience" more control over live updates, but not any more.

NIS2009 should have include the abilities for users to configure Update Frequencies for both LiveUpdates and Pulse.  My Pulse Update some times goes for about 45mins before making any updates.  (or when I manually click LiveUpdate).....Really, do not know why?????

Thank you

Sea_Monster,

With 2009  product we have introduced a background task manager to run tasks like LiveUpdate & Pulse Update. It moniters when user is idel and runs the task at that point. This feature makes sure that Norton processes do not use up the computer when you need it. Ofcourse it does not let the security of the computer to be compromised.

If you want the updates quicker, you can reduce the  "idle Timeout" to 1 min - by default it is set to 10 min - which means that Norton will start running background tasks 1 mins after user is idle instead of 10 min.

To change that:

- Open NIS 2009 UI by clicking on the tray icon OR Desktop shortcut

- Open  "Setting: by clicking setting link in the "Computer" section

- Open Miscellaneous Settings

- Set "Idle Timeout" to 1 min

- Click OK

So, now when you are away from your computer for 1 min, Norton will start looking for updates & start updating them if they are available.
