I use am external USB HDD to back up my files. The Norton backup folder on my external drive is nearly 300GB. The total size of used space on my HDD is 170GB and I'm not backing the whole thing up. Why is the N360 backup folder so large and how can I get it to downsize?

I am getting exactly the same problem... I have deleted a couple of Backup sets in attempt to fix the problem.. with Zero effect... I am sure there is a way but I cannot see it!
I am having the same problem with v5. The backups just keep growing and growing.
I only backup a small subset of my files daily with norton about 9gb but last
week my norton backup had grown to 130 gb so I deleted it but it is growing again.
There is only 1 backup set in the backup folder so I am assuming it does incremental
backups but why does it grow? Didn't have the problem with v4f

I'm not sure. How can I tell if N360 is doing a full or an incremental backup? I assumed it was only backing up those files that have changed since the last backup. My N360 backup set is 39.5k files in 82GB. The Norton folder on my external HDD is now 292GB.
Norton Norton Norton are you out there
v5 says my backup set is 11.7 gb. Yesterday it was 11.7 gb on my backup drive.
Today it is 34.7 gb. What is going on ????

Same issue as posted by others here. I have 25Gb worth of files to back up, and now I have a 500 Gb b/u drive that is FULL (and it's 500 Gb mirror!!). Can someone from Norton explain or fix this? If not, I'm ready to go back to version 4.
I feel like the Energizer bunny. I am up to 70.5 gb now and still going.
I guess if you are selling online storage this is a good way to make money
But I don't use online storage just a network drive
Norton where are you???

I have the same problem--I have 300 GB on my 1.5T hard drive (Windows 7), and my backup external hard drive (also 1.5T) is almost full--the backup must be doing full back ups.(set on automatic) Is there no way to do an "incremental backup"? (I don't see such an option) When the external drive is full, will Norton just over-write the earliest full back up. I don't see any solution posted which would permit an incremental backup--only of what is new.
Thank you.

Is there an option to choose between full and incremental ?
Hello All
Norton always does an incremental Backup. Backups are duplicated only when you create several Backup sets with same set of files.
Please check your Preview UI to reconfirm the Backup size.
Thanks
Kavitha
Actually, the problem is I have only ONE back up set and the size of the back up grows by the preview amount every time the back-up runs (scheduled daily). When I look at what is backed up, it's the list of files in the preview but they seem to be saved multiple times (Norton can't "see" the multiple copies). When my disk finally fills up I have to delete the back-up and start over. Interesting that when deleting the back-up the software says "deleting XX gigabytes" (the size of the preview). When that completes it does the same thing again and again deleting duplicate back ups until finally cleaned up.
The only options in Norton 360 Premier V5 is what files to back up and when--but no option to back up only new files--apparently, Norton does a full back up each time and takes up my entire external 1.5 TB hard drive.

TO: WHOMEVER THE NORTON PERSON IS that answers these posts...... I am SO done messing with v5. My B/U disks a full again. Norton is always supposed to do an incremental b/u, yet actually it seems to do a full back up each time it is scheduled. It somehow "hides" the old b/u files from view so it looks like only the files in the preview list are present. Really there are multiple copies of all of them and this is why the b/u folder keeps growing.
HOW CAN I GET MY OLD V4 BACK? PLEASE EITHER: 1) Answer this so I can remove this v5 headache or 2) Fix v5 so that it's usable.
If you can't get one of these done in short order I'll be forced to delete your software and look for something else. I don't want to do that as I've been using NORTON software for many years with very few issues.
Same problem here, I assumed that Norton backup would only backup changed or new files, but it has been backing up my complete hard drive each time. I now have no room left on my external hard drive and don't know what or how to delete safely the extra backups on my external hard drive. Help?
