how can I Scan my stand-alone Expansion Drive?

I realize when I run a FULL SCAN, my hard drive will be scanned.  But what about my stand-alone Expansion Drive?  Is it automaticlly scanned alone with my hard drive OR do I have to scan it separately?  How can I scan it separately?
