How can I stop Zone from starting up when I start the computer?

I have a Windows Vista Business version PC. When I turn it on the Norton Zone icon appears at lower right in the taskbar. I presume this means Norton Zone is running.

How can I stop Zone from starting up when I start the computer? I'd rather start this programme from the desktop when I want it.

The idea of the Zone client is to have constant syncing of your files without user action. If you only want to manually update the files, you would have to uninstall the local client and log into the Zone web site to do your uploads.

There is no way to just turn off the client.

Not only can you not turn it off, Norton made the service protected so you can't even manually stop the service.

I stopped using Norton Zone for 2 reasons.

1) You can't turn it off

2) There is no way to throttle the upload speed

Both of these suggestions were made the first week it was released but they have never been implemented.

I don't understand why they made it so you can't turn it off.

I like the way it works but I don't need it running all the time, I would prefer to simply be able to turn in on when I added or changed files in the NZ folder and not have the thing running all the time.

It's basically the only program other than an AV or Firewall that provides no option to turn it off.

As for throttling the upload speed.

Norton Zone is basically a manual tool, you the user have to manually add files into your Norton Zone.

That does not happen automatically, you are sitting at the system using it when you add files to NZ.

WHat happens is when you add a very large file, Norton Zone then hogs as much bandwidth as possible to upload the file as quickly as possible.   So if you trying to do other things at the time (since your definatly using the system at the time) it can slow everything down and I have actually had to stop working until the files are done uploading.

Thats actually another reason why it would be nice to turn the program off, you could add large files and then wait and turn the program on when your not going to be needing any bandwidth or using the system.

But if you were able to throttle the bandwidth to NZ you could use it without interfering with anything you happen to be doing at the time.  I don't feel that it's a big energency to have something uploaded as fast as possible, I just want it to get there sooner or later.

Every time I see a new version released I check in ths section to see if either of these changes have been made because I really would like to use the program.
