Hi kascrz,

Which Norton Product are you using, 2008 or 2009?

Also, what email program are you using?

I'm using Norton 2009 and just installed it. I usn MSN mail. I don't need it to scan my e-mails but can't seem to turn that off.

Hi kascrz,

Can you open the main Norton Window and go to "Internet Settings" then "Email Scan" let me know if that is ON or OFF?

Thanks.

It is off. I tried turning it on and scanning with no change. At this time it is off again.

Hi kascrz,

Even though you use MSN mail, is there a default email program on your computer such as Outlook Express or Windows Mail?

I am having the exact same problem and I don’t use any emailing program on my computer. How can this be fixed? Thanks…

It seems to me that the symevnt component is missing from your NIS.

Is, for example, the folder C:\Program Files\Symantec (i. e %SystemDrive%\Program Files\Symantec) with the file S32EVNT1.DLL present on your system?

Hi, thanks much for replying. I lost patience and ended up uninstalling the 2009 version. Then I went into my add/remove programs and found really old versions (2006!) of norton and 2 different norton liveupdate icons still there so I manually deleted everything and THEN reinstalled 2009 and now everything looks great-no more fixes necessary or error messages. I'm suprised because I always assumed that the new Norton version deleted the previous older version (as it says it does when it is installed) and yet those were still on my computer. Before doing this I had tried reinstalling without deleting the older versions from my add/remove programs (because I didn't know they were there) and I kept getting problems. So time consuming.

Thanks much for replying again.

For all versions prior to 2009 it is advisable to use the Norton Removal Tool, repeatedly if needed. For instance, the NIS09 installer doesn't remove the LiveUpdate component, but it removes it from Add/Remove Programs so you can't uninstall it from there.
