How do I keep Norton from erasing and or cancelling updates every two weeks..

I have been having trouble with Norton ever since their techs advised me that I needed remove my old version to update to the newest version for windows 7, 64bit.  I downloaded this and intellegent updater at the same time which was supposed to fix all my problems. It did not!  It seems the new version doesn't recognize the updates and live update tells me I need 239 mb's to insure security.  I need to use dial up to connect which means it would take some 14+ hours. If it fails to complete after 13 hours of downloading, I have to start all over from scratch. One time I was within 7mb's remaining and it failed to complete? Meanwhile all the automatic updates fail to complete as well. Finally after a couple of tries and 24 hours later, I'm finally once again get the familiar green check.  After about two weeks (at best) of being completely up to date and all auto updates working normally. out of the blue one hour after manually running live update and it completing, I suddenly now need 235 mb's to be secure?????? How is that even possible?

Question's; Why is Norton dumping all the updates and making me start over every two weeks???

What happens to the 230 mb's downloaded (13hr's later) when live update suddenly fails to complete???

Why doesn't the new version recognize it's own intelligent updates???

I've kept accurate and precise records for the past three and a halfmonths and have so far had to go through this frustrating process nine times?? I use my computer for small business and cannot afford to keep doing this ever couple weeks. I never had a problem with the older version. The new one is a nightmare because I cannot predict when the update files are going to mysteriously disappear. I hope someone out there in Norton community world can give me some answer's.
