How do I know if the Java I downloaded is for 32 bit system?

Vista Home Premium 32 bit with Vista SP

NIS 2010 v 17.8.0.5

 I had uninstalled Java 6 Update 22

I went to the Java site www. java.com/en/  to download the lates Java 6 updaate23 ( I spaced out the link to make it invalid to click on)

I clicked the button that said Free Java Download, took me to this webpage

www. java.com/en/download/ index.jsp

I clicked the download button there to start the download/installation process.

But it never gave me the option to select 32 bit or 64 bit. Later I read at other locatons, that one should make sure to select the right version (32 bit or 64 bit)

1. so how can I tell which version I have?

2. Does the installation process automatically check my system to give me the correct 32 bit version?

3. When I look in C:\ProgramFiles\CommonFiles\Java\JavaUpdate, I see some XML Document that says

task 64. Does that mean I have the 64 bit version?

4. Is there anywhere  I can check to find out the version I have?

Thanks
