How do i recover from a Nortons local backup on another machine?

I am trying to restore selected files from a computer, where I have used Nortons local backup to backup to a NAS drive. I am trying to restore selected files from the backup using Nortons local back on another PC. I’ve spent almost 2 hours on the phone with 6-7 different support personnel, including a supervisor who dropped the call and still don’t know how to get Norton to recognise the backup on the NAS drive. I was advised at one point that this is only possible using the Cloud backup option but when i asked whether a local backup was any point then, in case the original PC was no longer operational they did some various things and then dropped the call.

So can you you restore from a local back up to a different or new machine?

On the NAS drive, do you see the files ARestore.exe and ARestore.loc? If so run the ARestore.exe file. That should start the process for you. Please note that you CANNOT restore the files to the same locations on the new computer that they were backed up from on the old one.

Those files are not on the NAS.

Edited: You can download those files at the link below. The link will NOT open a webpage but will directly begin a download asking you where to save it to.

I have exactly the same situation as DAVOT10. I have several years of backups on a WD MyCloud drive that I cannot get my newly installed Norton 360 to recognize. I did a new backup to the same folder, and Backup sees that backup, but none of the others in the same folder, even after clicking the refresh button. I don’t see ARestore.exe anywhere on any drive and the link posted doesn’t work (screen flashes and no save dialog appears). I will post this as a new post also, but I would be grateful for any ideas you might have.

Hello @mkrausnick

Caveat: I don’t know whether ARestore will help with your years of backups on a WD MyCloud drive.

Hi, all I did was place the two files on the NAS and run them from there. It took quite a while, mostly i tihnk because of my local network speeds. It could see the more recent backup but I didn’t verify with older backups. the Norton backup is pretty rubbish really. I am looking at alternatives, after which I will probbaly change to another solution for both security and backups. Just crunching numbers.
