How do I specify: backup ALL files?

In "Manage Backup Sets", is there a way to "Add New" where I want *.* to be backed up?   I try entering "*" as the extension and I get an error "invalid extension".

I am a software engineer and have too many files extensions to discover and list.  It should not be this difficult.  On my iMac Time Machine, this is absolutely trivial to set up (plug in external drive and direct Time Machine to use it, and all files can be restored, and to a particular vintage).

After a disasterous restore that was missing most of my important files, I am trying to configure Norton to backup ALL files and having little success.   My goal is to backup ALL files on my C: drive, or at least all in C:\Users, no matter what the file extension.  That way if I add a new application that creates new file extensions, i won't have to wonder if a future backup and future restore will succeed.  (I cannot believe this is not the default backup, as disk space is rather inexpensive).
