How do I stop the Norton SafeSearch toolbar drop-down suggestions window from appearing?

Type a word such as 'Stop' in the SafeSearch toolbar, this is in Forefox, and immediatley the drop-down window appears with loads of suggestions which I don't want. But the cursor goes from the word 'stop' so I can be merrily typing a search phrase and when I look up all that is there is the word 'Stop with suggestions I don't want! Annoying!

I can't find any way to change settings for SafeSearch to stop the drop-down menu - see attachment

Please note this is nothing to do with Identity Safe which works fine and also not the main Norton SafeSearch window. It is just when I  am searching using the Firefox Norton toolbar.

Hi HantsDave,and welcome.

If you go to Options in the Firefox Menu Bar,and select the Privacy tab, at the bottom of the page in the Location Bar area, select Nothing, and hit OK

That should stop the dropdown suggestions.

Hi, again. My fellow Guru yank has brought to my attention that this has been an ongoing thing, as mentioned in this thread

http://community.norton.com/t5/Area-51/Some-help-from-Norton-re-the-Norton-Safe-Search-Box-entires/m-p/1088055/highlight/true#M23719

It seems that my reply, is purely for the Firefox search area. Sorry.

It has been brought to Symantec's attention, and they are working on it.

Hi F4E,

I, too, have that issue with the drop-down search box and would like to eliminate it.  I clicked on the highlighted link you provided but it said access denied that I didn't have sufficient privileges to open it.  Huh?  What good is the link if one can't open it?

So, using IE10 and want to disable the drop-box.  How do I do that with my program?

I appreciate whatever info you have available regarding how to fix this.

Thank you for your time,

Buoybells

Hi, buoybells. Do you mean you actually want to disable Safe Search Toolbar ?

If so, when you open your vault, click on the settings cog and under the General tab, you can uncheck Safe Search, so it doesn't appear on the Toolbar.

Hi F4E,

No, I like the Safe Search feature.  What I don't like is when I start to type in a word like bathrobes, and the drop down box pops open with all these options for bathrobes.  I can't continue to type specifically what I want unless I click on the search box again.  After clicking on the search box, I can then continue typing exactly what I'm searching for.  I really can't remember how long this has been going on but I do remember when this drop down box wasn't activated when I'd type in the search box.  All I hope to accomplish is to disable the drop down box from being activated when I type a word in the search box.  If it can't be disabled, then I'll just have to tolerate it, unfortunately.

Thank you, F4E, for your response and your time.

Are these options that you're looking for ? Sorry, I forgot to resize !

I'll have to check that out.  Thanks for the tip. Just maybe this will solve my problem.  :smileyhappy:

Hi all,

Latest word I have recevied from Norton on this subject is:

"We've identified this issue, and we're working to resolve it for a future update."

No more info in regards to when, but it is in the works.

<edit>  There is no setting concerning the stopping of the drop down suggestions in Norton Safe Search.

Thank you, Yank, for the update.  Look forward to it being fixed.

Hi Guru,

Thanks but this does not stop this behaviour. I now see several other posts leading to the point where it looks like Symantec need to solve the problem so I'll wait and see.

Thanks again from a very wet & windy UK!

Hi HantsDave,

Perhaps you missed my earlier post in this thread:

Dave,

"hants" - as in Northants?  I was stationed at Upper Heyford (1969) , lived in Brackley and still have in-laws in the Cotswolds.   Batten down the hatches - it looks pretty nasty over there today!
