We are using Windows Vista Business.  We are sharing folders with Windows XP pc's.  Norton 360 Firewall blocks the shared access.  We turn off the firewall, and specify to "not turn on until I say so", but it keeps turning back on.

We need to turn it off permanently!

Help!

hi dano - i'm thinking that n360v2 has home networking, which would allow you to establish a trust relationship on the network. you can install the v2 trial on top of your existing installations and it should activate off your existing v1 subscription.

it's also possible that all you will need to do is configure the trust zone (tasks from main v2 screen, click settings, click firewall protection and add ips for other computers in network under network location tab options for "trusted".

Norton 360 v2 firewall won't stay off permanently for me, either, even though the chat line expert remotely operated my PC and made the changes described in this thread.  It still turns on at least once per day even though the "stay off until I turn it on" option is selected.  I am convinced that this problem is caused by a bug in the software.

I currently am using the  "keep the firewall off until the computer is restarted" option in the hope that it will reduce the number of times that the firewall must be turned off manually.

Why don’t you try a clean reinstall? maybe something is wrong with installation

A clean reinstall would seem to be a good remedy except that the same problem affects all three of my PCs.  All three are running Norton 360 under Win XP Pro.  One PC is connected directly to an Actiontec MI424-WR router, and the other two are connected by WiFi to that router, which has a firewall that is incompatible with the 360 firewall.  Unfortunately, the router's firewall can't be disabled, and the router is supplied as part of a new Verizon FIOS installation.

To me, it still looks like 360 has a bug.

hi helms - i've not run into any incompatabilities between routers and a software firewall. you may need to add the routers ip to the trust zone in the firewall settings, but they should work together.

I have no Idea why N360 firewall turns itself on but here is another suggestion:
Go to "Settings", click on "Firewall Protection"
Go to "Traffic Rules", find "Default block Windows Files sharing", uncheck the rule, or change it's settings - click modify and then choose "Allow".
