How do I turn off the anti virus so I can download windows 8.1 from Windows 8. I have Norton online I got from Century Link. I cannot find a Task Bar or anything like it.
I don't know that version but if it puts a Norton icon on the System Tray at the bottom when in Desktop version of Windows 8.0 Right mouse click on the Norton icon and select Disable AntiVirus Autoprotect.
In view of the length of time the upgrade can take and since it involves several restarts, set that Disable to Permanently but make sure you Enable it again after the upgrade to 8.1 is complete.

Make sure you run Windows Update BEFORE doing the Upgrade to 8.1 since it requires the files to be current.
And don't forget to ENABLE Norton again....

PS I just did a search on Norton OnLine Century Link and it seems that Norton Online is a backup and recovery program? I doubt you need to disable that but do you have any of the Security programs they apparently offer Norton AntiVirus, Internet Security or 360 ?
A few ISP's distribute NAV and call it "Norton Online" Hugh.
Just like Comsast calls 360 another name.

Jane be aware that only version 21 will support Windows 8.1, while previous versions support 8.0.
I aksed because I'd been to the link you give and it lists all four .... under their Norton names ....
