How do you resume a product download?

I was downloading a new version of Norton Antivirus. I got disconnected from the internet so I hit pause download. The button dissapeared and the time remaining dissapeared. Now, I don't know how to get it to resume. There is no resume button.

I did that and nothing happened. It doesn't  bring back the remaining time or the pause button.

Oh!  What options do you get with a right click?

Is this the system you are having problems with in your other thread?

Here is a support article.  Please note the "What if this did not work?" link at the bottom of the page

You could try downloading from http://norton.com/latestnav.  You will need to run Live Update, restarting where required, until no more updates are available.

I started over. I wasn't that far into anyway.

Yeah, it's the same system. I did Live Chat and they said I should upgrade it and he set it up for me.

Hi Breaker

Just an idea as a new version could mean around 150mb, can you download it somewhere else like an internet café, library or someone you know who is on unlimited download then scan the version on your computer before installing it, then you’ll only need to get updates.

So Breaker - are you saying all is good thanks to Live Chat's assistance?

Well, I got disconnected again. 67 percent complete. All lost. I don't understand why it won't let me pick up where I left off.

IF you download from my link above it is a direct link and doesn't use the download manager.

Also, check the support article above.

Live Update doesn't work for me. That's the whole reason I'm trying to get a new version. It's still not working.

I guess my only option is to buy the disc. So, I have a few questions about that.

What is the newest version on disc of Norton Antivirus?

Will it delete my old version?

I have 124 days left on my subscription. Is there anyway to merge the two or will I lose it?

Hi,

I'm coming in late so I have to catch up here. Are you saying that you have a partial download of NAV and that because you are not using the download manager it will not resume?

As for installing from disk, you can do that but it will not be current and I expect that the updates will be several MB. If you use your current key, or use the verify subscription, the new copy should pick up your existing subscription and you will still have your 124 days, or a few less if you don't get it done today.

The current version is 20.3.x unless the update have been released. Then it will be 20.4.x

Keep us posted

You definitely do NOT have to buy a disk if you have a valid subscription.

Others here are giving routes to download a filke, not using the download manager, that will install the latest version available for download and which will be much more uptodate than any disk you can buy since they are frozen on the initial release. If you use one of the links you should get a query from Windows asking if you want to RUN or SAVE -- do not Run but use Save As and save it to a location where you can find it again.

Using a download probably will replace your installed version but should retain most of your settings and if you export your Identity Safe data file to a safe place you can import it again if it is lost. Your subscription will still be valid and you can use its KEY to activate -- the KEY is recorded in your MyNortonAccount and also in a file called KEY.txt that is on your hard drive -- I forget where!

I have the download manager but the first time my internet connection failed it wouldn't pick up where it left off.

I've tried multiple times and either the next time or the time after it would resume at 34 percent even though I made it to 67 percent. Each time I get disconnected it resumes at 34 percent. I made it to 44 percent another time and then it shot forward to 99 percent and then finished but when it was checking the files there was an error so I had to start over at 34 percent. After that my connection kept failing.

It's something like 178 MB and it's just to much for me to do with dial-up. If it would actually save where I left off instead of starting me at 34 percent I could do it. don't know what else to do except buy a disc version.

Sorry -- I did not realize you were on Dialup.

Do you know anyone with a fast connection because if you do then you can download the isntallation file type I referred to on any machine and copy it to a thumbdrive or CD to use to install on your machine without the major download.

You need the intenet connection active during installation because the installer uses it from time to time but not for anything massive.

That's one advantage of not combining the download and the installation. You don't have to buy a new copy to get this download since it has a free trial period of normal activity which gives you time to update and activate.

I do know one person but I hardly ever see him. I have Norton Antivirus 2008 I believe. I have never upgraded but I always kept my supsciption active...So would that even work for me? It's not just that patch thing that everyone has been talking about lately.

The one person said that if I buy the disc the Live Updates will be out of date and it will be a few MB's to download it all. That doesn't seem to bad to me considering what I was trying to download was something like 178MBs.

I just don't understand why Live Update for my version quit working all of a sudden. I worry that if I buy the disc and install that version Live Update still won't work.

Hi Breaker

Can you unplug and then reconnect the cable connections and make sure they are clean and a good fit.

Can you contact the supplier of your internet and ask them to check your connection to the internet.

As most people use the web during the day start the download after midnight in the hope you’ll get a faster download connection.

For the time being would you like to leave the new download version alone and just get the updates for your current version?  Then you’ll have time to sort things out while being up to date.  If so there are possibly two switches in the Norton product that need to be set to off I have NIS and on my product they are, automatically download new version, inform me of special offers the second may have nothing to do with a new version download but it is an automatic activity.  It might be worth setting all the automatic internet activity to off then restart the computer to reset what may trigger the new download version.  You have said in another post that, live chat set it up for me, you might like to check with live chat that they are not forcing the new download version to your computer when you download through a Norton connection.

How about a public library or other place with computers and internet service to download the file? Or email the link to the person you know, ask them to download it and put it on a CD for you?

NOTE THIS -- your subscription already paid for is valid to activate the current versions and will give you the balance of the unexpired days. This is Norton policy .....

But it's just possible that the reason LiveUpdate is failing is the age of your installation if LiveUpdate is doing the full nine yards and trying to bring you up to 2013 / V20 and not just give you the detection updates.

It is correct that if you buy a disk today it will not only be for 2013 (or you might find 2012) but it will need the fixes and the definitions updates from last Fall onwards.

If all else fails you can do this but will need after installing from it and updating it to contact the Norton OnLine Support Team preferably by the CHAT route as below and they will add back on the unexpired time that is lost when you install a new, purchased version instead of renewing or updating on line.

To contact customer support Click on this link https://www.norton.com/chat   and work on from there.

See what you think and please let us know how you get on ....

Hugh, and others,  please excuse me for jumping in the middle of this but Breaker said he believes he is using NAV 2008.

I don't remember, but did 2008 still use the old LiveUpdate - where it was a separate download and install and did not function the same as the current LiveUpdate which is incorporated into the Norton products?

Ok I installed it from the disc but I'm in the same boat I was before. The Live Update is 151.72 MB. I doubt I can stay connected that long. Is there anyway to check for certain updates seperatley?
