How do you select files to Norton backup?

How do you select files to backup?  I tried to type in the name of the file that is on my desktop, but that didn't seem to work?  Is it possible to backup photos?  Also is Norton constantly scanning the computer or do we have to "run" it to insure that the protection is up to date?  Thank you!!

I have an icon on my desktop that says Norton 360.  It's a black box with an orange circle and a white check.  When I double click on that it opens a screen that says My Norton on the left in a black background, then a vertical red stripe, and then a white box that has Device Security (indicating that my computer is at risk, but when I hit Fix Now nothing happens), then Dark Web Monitoring underneath, then Secure VPN underneath, then Cloud Backup below that indicating that my data is at risk, then password manager, and then Parental Controls.

If I actually go online I can get into Norton where I can view my protection report where it says Device Security stating that my device is secure, Dark web monitoring (where I have 2 alerts), secure VPN, etc. What is going on?  Does the desktop icon need to be deleted and reinstalled?  Is my computer protected?

The directions that are provided to protect a folder containing my photos doesn't match up with what I'm actually seeing, so its not clear about what things I need to click on, etc.  I really hope you can provide some support.  This is very challenging.

Here is a Norton Support article on how to add files and folders to your backup set.    https://support.norton.com/sp/en/ca/home/current/solutions/v20534334

Photos can be backed up using the information in the article to add the folder where you store your photos.

With the Backup set to automatic, it will scan for and backup new files while your system is idle.
