I have an issue that is not necessarily related to the thread where I introduced it. Another forum member, with the same problem, recommended starting a new thread so we could get more input from other members.
How is a new thread made?

How is a new thread made?
I would like to move or copy the messages (related to the new issue) that have already been posted in the existing thread, to the new thread.
The Moderators will take care of that. Don’t worry
If you don't want to wait for moderators (by the way send tham a PM about it :D) just copy the texts to your new post like this:

Use the indent button (the lines with the arrow to right) to moving the previous post to the right.
And when mods made the moving, you can edit your post by removing the quotes from it (no need for duplicates :D).
Honestly, you must see a different version to the one I see here. I cannot find New Message anywhere now. I must have looked at over 30 pages within this site in the search for an answer to my problem or to start a thread about it and found only one page with a new message field,. But that was a page allegedly about or based on the Beta version and had nothing to do with me. I lost it when I deleted a whole lot of useless tabs that I had opened in this browser, and now can't be bothered trying to find it again.... Such is Norton's life?!
Customer service?
Hi Alexov54
Its below the search box on the page NIS/NAV where you scroll through deciding which thread to read.Ie where you chose to read this thread. Each forum has its own main page and when you want to start a new thread you have to start from that page. And NEW MESSAGE is found under the search box on each.Hope that makes sense.
<< Honestly, you must see a different version to the one I see here. I cannot find New Message anywhere now. >>
You have to be in the Message Listing to get the [ ]New Message on the left of the header bar.
For example go to the Home page of Norton Internet Security / Norton AntiVirus
and then you should see it. It looks like this in the Black Bar where it also says Board Options, all on the left. Something like this:
with New Message alongside it.
Ok, thanks for that... Finally I get to see where it is. But the question arises: why is it not more simple to find it? Why could it not be at the top of many such pages next to the "search" button or somewhere else? I got so frustrated today, and was ready to chuck the whole thing in. I have read many criticisms on the net about Norton's and its demand for system resources/ram etc. There are alternatives.
I was that close to deciding not to bother with NAV anymore after my latest subscription is finished. They should be a bit more customer focussed. I could write reams about the things that irritated me today when I tried to find out this or that, but no one is going to pay me to take the time to point out all the bits that could be improved, are they!!
Improvements? Here is one: instead of having the New Message appear after clicking on Message Listing, why not put New Thread underneath theThread Options link. After all, it would seem a reasonable option to be able to start a new thread from that, wouldn’t it? So why do I, little old me, out here in 'netland, need to suggest this? Why doesn’t some bright and well-paid spark from Symantec come up with the idea? It seems so obvious to me that this would be a good thing. I am a bug for continuous improvement, I must admit.
Hi Alexov54
If you want to make suggestions on improving the usability of these forums Go to the Forum Feedback on the community page and you can make your suggestions there.Sounds like a bad day!You missed out on making some suggestions for the next Nav/NIS2010 by a month or so.Some how I don't think they would pay

Errr... What Version of N.AV. are you using?
N.AV. and N.I.S. 2008/2009 does not use a lot of R.A.M. and is very light on the system. if you can, I would Highly-Recommend N.I.S. 2009 as N.AV. 2009 does not have a Firewall; see this Thread for more details: http://community.norton.com/norton/board/message?board.id=nis_feedback&thread.id=18195.
Good idea but post it in the Forum Feedback as suggested because that Forum is scanned frequently by the people who operate the forum software (who are not Symantec).
This is the third time today and probably the last time I will ever try to contribute here. I have tried twice to type up, in the space provided, what happened to me today when I learned that “downloading updates in the background” apparently means that a NAV file called aleup.dat used almost 100% of my CPU for three hours, effectively freezing this computer and preventing me from doing anything on it. Are they going to re-imburse me for my extra electricity bill. I doubt it. I had a bad day yesterday? It was a pleasant holiday compared to this morning.
But what happened when I tried to post my experiences a few minutes ago? No can do. Despite logging in correctly, I got a page of apology saying sorry but your post blah, blah, blah. This forum setup won’t even let you copy what you have typed before you post it, in case something goes wrong, at which point you could try again and paste the old text into a new space, thus saving you lots of time and aggravation. Yet another potential improvement.
I spent half an hour typing the first time and fifteen minutes the second. Complete waste of my time. I don’t honestly know why I am bothering to try again, but this time I am doing the typing in Word and will try to copaste it into the space on the website.
And what happened this morning? It - aleup.dat - seemed to be stuck so I tried to use task manager to end the process. Access denied. Other Nortons files were demanding CPU time as well.
Had to shut down the normal way, and saw that there were automatic updates to download first. OK…. Then that got stuck for around 10 minutes on #3 out of 11 updates. Frozen? Seemed so. I suspect the downloads were actually the same ones as aleup.dat alleged to be doing.
Despite a warning not to unplug, I had no choice. Disconnected the broadband cable and re-started. Fine. Uninstalled NAV. It works fine.
Did I forget to mention that the computer had already frozen just a few minutes after connecting to the ‘net this morning, and that I had to re-start it. No? And then how this aleup.dat thing had started itself up again and froze it again. And how you cannot remove aleup.dat or stop it? Who is the boss of this computer? Me? No, Nortons is.
Next issue/problem? Suggestions to the forum? I missed out on the opportunity to make a suggestion to this forum by only a month or whatever?…. Sorry, but I didn’t miss out on anything. Nortons did, and if their heads are so stuck in the sand that they won’t take anything new on board - because it’s out of the timeframe - and won’t make “non-standard” improvements to their product, then it is only a matter of time before more word gets around about how lousy their service can be. Competition is supposed to make for better services. If it is me, rather than one of their big-brained and highly-paid staff members, who can point out what seem to me, after just a few minutes on these pages, easy ways to make it more user-friendly, then someone clearly is not justifying their position in the organisation. Most of the new people looking for answers here don’t have the secret knowledge about where they can find the link to making a new thread. Those staff members ought to try to step out of their boxes and see the online system as a novice does…. Very frustrating and irritating to the point of making a person lose interest. Maybe that is their plan!
So now, as someone who is really annoyed with this whole thing, I have made a decision: come the end of my subscription, I don’t think I will renew. Will they make me an offer I can’t refuse? Ha, ha, I am not holding my breath.
I just dropped in at this end of your post, so I will only help you save time.
Staying logged in to the forum means clicking a link within a certain time limit, otherwise you will be logged out. There are a couple of ways you can keep from losing your message.
1. Immediately log in, then use your back arrow to go back to this screen and the post will then take. Or copy it and save it for later.
2. Write it somewhere else, copy it, then paste it by clicking on the paste icon above (it says paste from word, but it actually pastes from anywhere as far as I can tell). When you try to post, you will probably get a message telling you that HTML has been removed. No problem; click post again and there you are.
