Wondering about this as I have FF 3.0.9 and tried but could not get quick links to open at all (don't use FF except for checking compatibility issues that other posters report).
However I have had " ') " turn into a smiley when posted but in editing it stays the same as I view it. Strange.

I have the same scenario here. Although FF is not my default browser, I did a clean install of FF 3.0.9 last night. Right know I'm using FF to reply to this post and I cannot seem to get the quick links to appear. I've tried using the ' numerous times in here and nothing happens - typing is normal.
Is there any chance you have some strange add-on or even some type of other "enhancement" that is causing this?
the only addons I have are displayed on the first page can you check if there are any you don't have?? I don't know where the default mozilla add on came from?
If you wish the ( ' ) or ( / ) key should by default call up the box. Through a little experimentation the Ctrl-G key does as well.
If you wish entering the secret land of Firefox by inputting about:config and if the key searchkeys.disable.all is set to true they probably won't work. The keys searchkeys.find.key and searchkeys.link.key, I believe are the keyboard assignments for which key is used in conjunction with this feature. The value column determining (in ascii ??) which key is assigned.
This may have been more than you wished to know or knowing you something you already know :)
Already knew but reloading knowledge is always good. However, what I find wierd is that when I look for these ‘config keys’ I don’t even have them listed. I don’t have time to search right now (off to work I go) but I suppect these are not current default configs but from older versions that have floated up through the various upgrade installations over the years.
We have all learned in this thread, including me. I never knew of Firefox magic 'about:config'.
Of course I try NOT to have anything customized for my own needs, I try to experience the forums using tools configured the same way as 85% of the population, which would be stock browser with few configuration changes and/or add-ons.
The article that I quoted for mo earlier in the thread suggests that is a key that must be added. about:config seems to be the Firefox version of 'regedit' where not all keys exist until added.
I happen to be using a brand new computer, with brand new installs of everything, and I didn't have said key.
