How do you turn off N360 from removing files - Monthly report and what files are removed

Dear Community,

I am just enquiring after observing my monthly report that I have some files that have been removed.

I do not wish any files to be removed, such up Temporary Internet Files and Word documents.

If registry files are removed - what affect does this have to do with the Back Up and Tune Up?

I have looked through similar questions and I can not figure it out. I am just a simple computer user and worried.

Here are some pics that may assist.

If you require any more information, please let me know. I now have the error message 8504.,101.

FILES REMOVED - NORTON MONTHLY.JPGdisk optoz.JPGwindows tasks.JPGwindows temp report.JPG

Hello Community,

I am not too sure that you may be able to assist me - But noticed that in the TuneUp section of the N360 that there is an option for the Tasks Scheduling and the fact that I noticed that after a period that my desktop is not showing the temporary files that I previously had showing.

I have the hidden files as to be shown in the Windows Folders section - so not a Windows issue.

Can someone please assist me in ensuring that I have have the correct settings so that in future that N360 does not delete any of my temporary files as they may contain fragments of my large documents. I am not computer savvy and sure - but I like to keep as much history as possible and back up on my system at the moment.

It looks like you have disabled all of the tune up tasks so they should not run.

Have they run after they were turned off?

Wow you sure have a lot of desktop icons.  I could never put up with that many.

Hi Melissa_Confuse,

I may be looking at your History images incorrectly, but it looks like the Disk Optimization, The Windows Temp Filles and the IE Temp Files were all succesfullyl completed in January (10/01/2014), and are shown as cancelled in March (17/03/2014).

This would indicate to me that N 360 did not accomplish any of the tasks in that time frame (from Jan to March) and were in fact cancelled in March.

Also have you looked under TASKS > Check Norton Tasks to see when those tasks wee last performed?

Just curious which browser you may be using, as there are settings that delete files upon exit from the browser?

I agree with agree with @Krusty13  that it appears you have those items disabled, and they shodl not run from N 360!

I actually use a combination of Google and Internet Explorer..

I am just curious as to what you mean that I have it set to delete files upon exit. I am not that computer savvy.

I know that Norton runs tasks in the background. It also notifies me - especially as I am writing a book that takes 350 pages of MS Word and it keeps crashing. I am in hospital battling cancer - not thinking that well.

I appreciate everyone that has responded to this and I will be cleaning up my desktop. It would drive me crazy have the options set as I have at the moment - hidden files shown.

Thanks

Hi, Melissa_Confuse.

In most browsers, there is an option to delete temporary internet files automatically when you close the browser (upon exit).  This is totally unrelated to Norton.

You can check this in Internet Explorer (IE).  First, open IE as you normally would when you go online.  Next, click the gear button at the upper right corner of your IE window (Screenshot 1).  Then click Internet Options in the drop-down menu (Screenshot 2).  Now, click the Advanced tab (Screenshot 3) and scroll down until you locate the option (as shown).  If the little box next to it is unchecked, then you don't have to do anything other than click on the OK button.  If it is checked, then please uncheck it and click the Apply button.  Finally, click OKPlease note: What I have just written only applies to temporary files accumalated from browsing sessions in IE not done in the so-called InPrivate mode.  If you browse in IE's InPrivate mode, no matter what you do, the temporary internet files will be deleted upon closing the broswer.

As for Google Chrome, if you don't open it in Incognito mode (Chrome's "InPrivate" equivalent), you should be fine.  Actually, I'm not even sure that Chrome offers an automatic delete option for regular (non-Incognito) browsing sessions.  In Chrome, it seems that the only way to delete temporary internet files from non-Incognito browsing sessions is if you go into Settings and delete them manually.  Of course, I could be wrong about this.

One more thing.  Hope you make a full and speedy recovery from your awful illness!
