How does Family / Parental Control calculate child's usage time

New user of Norton, chose it as it has the virus / security and parental controls in a single package. So far, mostly hassle.

Right now my question is about how Norton Family / Parental Controls calculates my child's device (Win11 laptop) usage time. It's the new school year in Australia, our school has a 'bring your own device' policy. I've set an 8-hour limit within a 14-hour window for school days. It seems that today use time has been counted continuously from the minute he turned it on this morning, even including the time the laptop was sleeping (laptop is set to sleep when the lid is closed). I know he can't have had the laptop on for more than two hours at school today, but when he got it out to do homework after dinner, it said he was over 9 hours.

Hi Dadam,

Thanks for reaching out to Norton Family Forum.

There is a possibility that certain computers doesn't go to complete sleep mode based on configurations.
Could you please try shutting down or locking the machine when not in use to ensure the usage time is not calculated during that time interval. Kindly check and reach out to us if the issue persists.

Thanks and Regards,
Norton Family Team.
