Two of the files that I want to keep backed up are outlook .pst files - each about 2GB in size. I particularly want to back them up when on the road over my 3G connection.
How does Norton handle this? Does it backup the whole file each time; or does it do some sort of block by block comparison and only backup those blocks that have changed?

Norton online backup will back up the files in such a way that if a file is lready backe dup with a name and if you just add up some more data on to the same file it will just back up the data that is added and it will add the data to the same file as you mentioned as block comparision so when ever it is trying to back up it will check whether the file it is trying to back up is already backed up earlier and if it is already present on the server then it will check whether it is of same size if it not of the same size it will just add the new data to the same file so that the file will not get backed up multiple times and the storage data willbe saved

In short if the file was already backed up it will send only the changes and not the whole file each time. The other thing to consider is if you're backing up via your cell carrier's network be mindful of data usage. Many carriers are eliminating unlimited plans. If those two PST files were to get a large influx of data and a subsequent backup is run you may use up your allotted 3G bandwidth over the period of several backups.
Thank you for your reply. I take the point about a sudden influx of new data causing a much more substantial backup. Is there a way of monitoring the amount of data that is being uploaded during the backup (or perhaps even better, the ability to set some sort of cut off). If not, could you take this as a suggested improvement because as you say, one doesn't want to consume one's entire upload capacity with a single backup.
