When I run the Software Updater, it tells me I have Microsoft ASP .Net Core Runtime 8.0.15, and recommends updating to 8.0.22. When I run ‘dotnet --list-runtimes’ in PowerShell, the 8.0.15 version is not listed, but the 8.0.22 version is. So who can explain it?
Thanks, Tamir
@Tamir_Nof Microsoft ASP .Net Core Runtime 8.0.15 is the current version, while Microsoft ASP .Net Core Runtime 8.0.22 is the patch update for this software. Unless you are a developer, AND, extensively utilize Visual Studio version 17.10 is recommended. I wouldn’t be concerned. Software Updater by Norton can render your system not usable in some instances, the recommendation is rely on Microsoft to deliver the system OS and other related updates you should be getting for that reason.

Seriously, why do so called site gurus recommend against using Norton features. You might as well just recommend against using Norton products case closed. I agree with the poster completely. There is something wrong with how the software updater is identifying ASP.NET updates. It is telling me to update to 8.0.23 when I am already running 8.0.23. If I follow through with the update nothing changes.
@robert_scardapane We Guru’s just happen to have more than a few years of experience and expertise under our belts that allows us to give our professional opinions, regarding best practices and ways to maintain devices, without the need for third party software assisting. Recommending NOT to use Norton’s driver and software updater software is one of those opinions, it is based on our personal usage of said products and customer feedback. These two software suites didn’t just begin offering bad or outdated data, they have done so for quite some time. No one is saying don’t use Norton features, that call is the users to make.
FWIW!! Malware can present you with the notification that ASP NET needs updating, there are those that would click, install then become infected due to not knowing anything better. ASP Net is software specific to Microsoft, and, is updated via its update catalogue or directly via Windows Updates. Myself and others know this and recommend using those official avenues to get those updates vice a third party.

What a joke! So Norton makes you a guru so you can bad mouth their product and give dubious advice to users. How about just admitting you don’t know the answer and pass it on to development. I am not intimidated by you gatekeepers. I was IT engineer for 45?years. I know when people don’t know what they are talking about.
@robert_scardapane If you are looking for an argument, one isn’t present. No one here is intimidating anyone, we are here to assist. You are free to use any and all Norton products / services at your personal convenience. Offering a different perspective in the use of those tools, often saves others the headaches others have already endured.
Please feel free to look around the forums for postings where others have had and continue having, issues with Software Updater and Driver Updater. There are many. Wishing you all the best.

well of course we are free to use whatever we want to use. There is no need to use software updater. Virus scanner will work just fine if you ignore it. However it is a part of what we pay for so why not make it work better? That is my point. Why advise users not to use it? Instead how about make it work better? If I was not genuine about wanting it to work better I would not even bother commenting here.
with that said I’ll just point out you can ignore any software update that is not working right such asp.net which has been broken for months now.
