I'm in the middle of running my first Full System scan since updating from NAV 2011 this morning.
I noticed that the Full System Scan window under "Total items scanned" says were (at the time I looked)
12520 "Trusted Files" and 529 "Skipped Files"
I didn't know what "Trusted" meant and I didn't know why some files were skipped, so I looked
at the Norton support site and found under "Support" > "Norton AntiVirus" an article with main heading
"Results Summary - scan in progress" that says that "Total items scanned" includes:
"The number of files that are Norton Trusted,"
and
"The number of files that are skipped from the scan. These files are already scanned and are unchanged since the last time it was scanned."

Why would Norton AntiVirus (NAV) "trust" a file"?
How does NAV know that a file is unchanged since the last time it was scanned?
Does NAV scan the file to make sure that its checksum hasn't changed since the last time it was scanned?
If not, how can NAV believe that the file hasn't changed?
Also, in case I get really paranoid, how can I get NAV to check files against known viruses if
checksums are normally used?
I'm running Norton AntiVirus Version 20.3.1.22.
I'm running Windows XP Professional with Service Pack 3 and all application Microsoft Update patches.
