I have 3 computers running Norton Antivirus 2010, but they were all on different subscriptions. So on one I started getting the pop-up saying I can upgrade to 2011 free. I only had about 25 days left. So, I click on it and after the download I was told my Key was invalid for some reason. Its been awhile and not sure it even told why.
But it was purchased but downloaded, just like the other two are. So, since 2011 give me 15 days I didn't email support asking why I got a pop-up saying I could upgrade and at no charge, then saying my key was not valid after almost a year. It sounded like rip off too me.
Anyway, so now I got 2011 on one computer and thinking about buying the 1 user/3pc from Amazon. I don't see any reason to take 2011 off my computer since its working fine. Maybe I should know this but if I download from Amazon can I just save it and then delete, or what? All I want is the keys to put in and I assume they email or its on their site.
One of my other computers has expired so I can use another key there. But my third computer has over 400 days and I get the pop-up on it, but didn't try the upgrade because of what happen to me before.
So, all I really want is the keys from Amazon, so what is the easiest way with 2011 already on my computer,
Note. Amazon would send you a boxed copy of nis not a download version. Plus, regarding the missing days, you can contact customer service via one click support and ask them to add back the days.

Amazon also typically offers a download option, perhaps not for all purchases but for many. In fact I just checked their website for NIS 2011 and they do offer a download version. The product key should be supplied electronically at the end of purchase and also through an email receipt.
In either case one should not download the actual NIS product from Amazon since the links we provide here are more current. All you need is the product key from the Amazon purchase.
OK, thanks for the replies. Yes, they do have a download version on Amazon. But, I cannot download just the product keys, but i assume its OK to just download and just save the NIS product and not let it install ? Then just delete it off my computer because as I said, 2011 is already put on my computer by the upgrade offer that said my key was invalid.
Also, if I upgrade my computer that has over 400 days to 2011, and it pulls the same stunt and tells me the key was invalid, is customer service going to give me the days back, or just confirm the key is invalid ? I assume if they just confirm its invalid for whatever reason, I can put 2010 back on and use the same key again? I mean I don't know why the pop-up tells me my subscription allows a upgrade, then would claim the key is invalid.
I would contact customer service via the free chat program. Normally, if you enter a new key that was purchased some place other than the Symantec store,, you would lose the remaining days of your subscription. That is why we tell the users to wait until a day or two before the sub ends before you enter a new key. Since you are concerned about the validity of your keys for the program, I would definitely call customer support. They usually will add the days back into your account and if it turns out to be a bad key, they usually do something about that also. Here is the link for customer support,

Hi robert100,
To clarify. You do not need to download the program from Amazon at all. You can purchase the download version but you don't actually need to download the actual software.
For the product key there is nothing to download. If you purchase the download version Amazon should give you a product key at the end of your purchase and they should also send an email confirmation of it. As a precaution I would recommend that you print a copy of your receipt at the end of purchase and make sure that it does in fact have the product key on it.
As Floplot said you should not enter the new key until 1 or 2 days before your current subscription expires but you can upgrade to 2011 at any time.
If 2010 is working properly you can install 2011 right over the top and it should automatically retain your current product key. As a precaution you can make note of your product key which you can get from your Norton Account.
I am also not 100% clear on whether you have NAV or NIS since various posts in this thread mentions both. What does your main interface say? Is it Norton Antivirus or Norton Internet Security?
You can download the full version from the links below, just pick the one corresponding to what you actually have.

Thanks again for all the replies. Also, I was talking about Norton Antivirus. So I did download from Amazon. But I did have to install their down loader and also download the software, before I could get the key. The key is hidden until you do that.
I was able to keep it from installing, even though I didn't see a way to cancel the install. But I simply didn't let it install and closed the amazon down loader. Maybe there was a different way to stop the install after downloading and get the key, but that's how I did it.
So, after that the key showed up on the Amazon website, it isn't emailed. Also shows up in my Norton account with 2 pc's left after registering. So I got Norton back working on this pc, because it about to expire or maybe had already for a short time.
Thanks for the update. Wasn't there at least a SAVE option for downloading the software from Amazon? You should not have to run the software just to download it. Honestly the fact that they did not provide you the key until you downloaded the software is bad policy on their part, that along with them not sending you a copy of the receipt to include your product key in an email.
I've bought quite a lot of stuff from Amazon including software in the past and I don't recall this being necessary but then things change I guess.
The main thing is that you got what you needed in the end.
