I recently downloaded Flash Player from a link on a website I can't identify in my browser history now. Bundled with it were a couple of toolbars, Delta Search & Babylon. When it asked if I wanted to install them I clicked no. When I returned to Firefox I found that Delta Search had been installed & had taken over over my homepage, search engine, new tab although the Delta Search toolbar was not functioning.
I changed the homepage back easily by simply choosing a new homepage. I then removed the search engine from the list of search engines. To change the "new tab" page I had to type "about:config" in the url bar & search the list for anything with Delta search in it. There were 2 entries I removed. Then I had to go to Control Panel -> Remove Programs and remove 3 entries, Delta toolbar, Delta search & another program called Browser Protector.
I thought I had removed it from Firefox & Win 8 but when I checked it was still infecting Internet Explorer. I did a search with Win Explorer & Delta Search was gone but there was another program called Babylon Toolbar. So I used regedit to remove all delta & babylon references in the registry. Then I searched with Win Explorer & removed anything with those 2 names. Finally I went through the Temporary Internet files & deleted anything from the last 2 days except the cookies from sites I know & use regularly. I think IE is back to normal now. Firefox is working normally. I think it is gone. Time will tell.
Doesn't ask Norton about unwanted programms(as NOD 32 do)? if you want to install or not?
I get the home page reset.
I don't know what you mean by removing the search engine from the list of search engines. I have found the add-ons and removed those under tools/add-ons/plugins and extensions.
about:config gives a scary message to a newbie - "This might void your warranty. Changing these advanced settings can be harmful..."
it does show a number of entries called Smartbar at the top of the list in user entries as opposed to default.
Smartbar also has a http://search.conduit.com/... which shows up in other entries
No Delta entries, this must be some kind of cousin.
would it make sense to just uninstall the browsers and reinstall new copies?
Still, there is something that Spybot regularly finds but can't remove.

Hi Guzzista
I’d just like to point out that spybot deletes Babylon in normal mode. From the image you can see that wajam and widgi.toolbar failed to be deleted. I then run spybot in safe mode and it deleted what it could not in normal mode. Disconnect the internet as Norton seems to be disabled in safe mode only allowing a full scan. To boot into safe mode see help and support from the start menu. I don’t know if spybot will delete Delta toolbar, Delta search and Browser Protector but if any one does find it deletes in either normal or safe mode they might like to post to confirm.
