How to block a program from loading into memory?

Hi,

 

Under windows folder there is a program called SearchProtocolHost.exe . It frequently loads itself into memory.

I want to block this program from loading itself into memory, because i am not able to delete it from harddisk.

I am using Vista.

 

Please advice how to block program from loading into memory using Norton 360.

That is Windows Search, an integral part of Windows. If you want to disable it, go to Start Menu -> type services.msc and press Enter. In the list of services that appears, scroll down to Windows Search. Double-click it. Change "Startup type" to Disabled. Press the "Stop" button under "Service status". Done. You will still be able to use the Search in Windows the same way as before, but searches might take slightly longer since the indexing has been disable. You can revert the changes any time by changing "Startup type" to Automatic again.
