Hi,
I feel a bit silly, but also pretty helpless, since I thought, I´m no stranger to concepts of firewalls, but my NIS2011 frustrates me...
I have a valid NIS2010 account, which for whatever reason updated last week in the midst of its duration to NIS2011, which is sort of ok with me, but unfortunately since then I´m having annoying problems with blocking programs from the internet;
I have some freeware programs like NotePad++, 7zip etc. but also bought software like WinAmp, which regularly connect to the internet, I guess, for checking for updates, but I feel a lot more comfortable, if I myself decide, when they do that;
so the natural thing is to start the firewall, tell it to block ALL programs (unless they are allowed by exception) and that worked fine with the old version of Norton´s IS;
in the 2011 I also went to the settings, network settings, selected "intelligent firewall" and set all the programs, I don´t see reasons, why they contact anything except my own PC to "BLOCK"
BUT: other than in the 2010 version, now e.g. each WinAmp start is orchestrated by the question: "Security Warning: WinAmp tries with one or more modules to access the internet"; and the preset answer is "yeah sure, allow it always" with the only alternative "block this instance".
Well, I don´t want to be asked anymore about this, I just want the firewall to NEVER again allow WinAmp (and others) to access the internet, but I´m not being able to get this done with the NIS2011
Any idea, what I do wrong? Or any suggestion, what to do? (well, except going to Kaspersky :-))
help searching regards from a pretty desperate MoorGraf
