How to block removal of a tracking cookie

I go to great lengths to setup my online TVGuide web page grid for my zip code and cable provider. This all gets saved in a browser tracking cookie.

But then every time Norton AV 2012 does a scan it removes this cookie. Arg!

So I need to know one of two possibilities:

1. How do I exclude certain cookies from being removed (e.g., Cookie:michael@tvguide.com) ?.

OR

2. How do I restore a cookie that has been removed?

Finally, I would think this is a popular request. So I was a little baffled that it wasn't listed (or easy to find)  by either using Norton Help or by using Norton Search.

I'm almost 70 having retired after 35+ years of software development. I hope senility hasn't started to set in. :)

I would have expected this issue would have been much easier to solve. Oh well.

Footnote: Does Norton Community have a notification option so I will know when someone has replied to my post?

TIA for reading my comments.

Hi mlthal,

The TV Guide cookie issue has come up previously on the forums.  One user found a way to exclude the cookie from Norton scans, which he posted here:

An alternative would be to set Norton to ignore tracking cookies and use the browser's Privacy settings to control which cookies are allowed.  If you are interested in that approach please let us know which browser you use.

The tip (or workaround) by contributor wildbill47 seemed to work.

Namely, "it appears the way to exclude specific cookies is to clean all cookies, go to the place that has a cookie you want excluded from future scans, re-establish it there, rescan, and instead of fixing, just exclude."

As to email notifications, apparently this is the default setting. I just registered with the Community without editing any settings and I received an email notification about your post. Yea!

I'll save addressing my curiosity about why Norton AV 2012 chooses to remove a harmless TVGuide tracking cookie for another day. <head scratch>

Thank you for your prompt and very helpful reply.

Hi mlthal,

You're welcome.  Glad to hear the workaround was successful.  I'm not sure what it is about the TV Guide cookie that makes it appear to Norton as a tracking cookie.  Your post was the fourth one that I have seen about this issue.
