How to cancel N. Protection Center?

Just a question.
Why would you turn of your security?

No no, it only should run in background and let me decide how much security I need at the moment.
Since I had my first Computer in 1991 nearly every software once installed, tried to take over the system somehow - that’s just normal. But there was always some hidden door to cancel that behaviour and if not - kick it out!

Now I don’t like to have to do that with Norton after all those years of good work…

With NIS and 360 Symantec goes the way that you don’t even see what happens. Only if you have a signal for hard disk and network traffic you may notice that it is on and on and on… That scares me more than some security-lack, believe me!

They wanted Systemworks where you have full control to be replaced by 360 but fortunately that didn’t work yet - too much customers refused a change. But even Systemworks now has this nasty and forced protection-center tray icon…

Hello craig_s,

I think Norton Protection Center is perfectly integrated in new Norton products. All that you see is NPC's icon after installation, and not two or three icons, like it was, with older versions. You can easily ignore status messages from Norton Protection Center's main window in 2008 protucts, and you won't be alerted. It just depends on your settings.

You can always turn on your firewall. That will allert you

Hello Vejdin,

>>and not two or three icons, like it was, with older versions<<

...they could ALL be disabeled...

>>you won't be alerted. It just depends on your settings<<

OK, since v.2008 "Complete Scan" is no longer alerted. But Updates always, no setting will stop that. And even if all alerts were history - then what for do I need the tray icon..?  :smileyvery-happy:

I agree with you for updates, I've noticed that even If I turn-off automatic update, the program updates it's protection, but that's essential.

The tray icon ensures that the program has loaded and it's working. This icon also indicates how secure the computer is.

It's just my personal opinion :)
