To close OneDrive so it can update, simply exit the application from your system tray or taskbar.
On Windows:

1. Look at the bottom-right corner of your screen (near the clock) and click the cloud icon for OneDrive. (If you don’t see it, click the up-arrow to show hidden icons).
2. Click the Help & Settings (gear icon) in the top-right corner of the pop-up menu.
3. Select Quit OneDrive (or Close OneDrive).
