I have installed and uninstalled N 360 a couple of times, and each time I do it another set from the previous instalation is left behind in the Secure Online Storage. I can delete the files inside, but not the set itself, it always produces an error.
Unfortunatly at this point it is not possible to delete the backup set itself but you can use the Norton Backup Drive to remove the contents of the backup set to regain your online backup space. I am working on solutions for this issue in the upcoming releases of Norton 360.
Yes, I contacted Tony a few days ago but so far I have not received a reply.

Thanks,

I'm now aware of the fact that I can't reset my Secure Online Storage, and I consider that to be quite a design flaw in your product. Since there is a right-click option in the Online Backup drive to delete a set, isn't it then a call whose function you should enable on your end, on the storage server?
Btw., backup sets on flash removable media and hard disks CAN be deleted, right?
Yes we can delete backup sets on removable media. This is a limitation of the online part of backup. We are working on solutions for the next release. We do have the ability to reset your online account though. I have already contacted the server team to find out what information I will need to gather to help you clean out those backup sets.
On the face of it, it really seems to be a non-issue. However, my N 360 is sluggish during startup on my system (takes quite some time to fully load, UI and all, upon boot), and I thought this could maybe, just maybe, be the cause.
Since I don't know what N 360 startup procedure looks like (you maybe do), I'm just guessing.
Would you like to clean out your entire storage area or just specific backup sets? If you would like the entire backup area cleared to reset everything send me your norton account e-mail or product key in a PM and I will have it reset.
I missed your post about the performance when I was replying to this topic. Unfortunatly the backup sets will not cause a decrease in boot performance. Backup has basically no impact when starting the computer.
I want it cleared up totally, I have fixed my backup configs now.
The data is coming your way presently..
I'm kinda sad it can't be that, then this would solve those problems... I have descibed them in little more detail on another thread.
One more question, is there any way to avoid the situation where after a full uninstall, and a fresh install, a new backup set is created inevitably, even if you set it up with the same name and the same content?
And another, lol, do I have to reconfigure backup on my end? Or will it be recreated with the present settings on the next run without any conflicts or errors?
As you can tell by the private message your account is being reset. We will clear it of all backup sets. When it is cleared your backup settings on your machine will remain. The next time backup is run after the reset it will recreate the backup sets you run. So you will not need to do anything if you already have online backup setup.
If you uninstall run with the option to save your settings. This includes backup so that the settings will be migrated on reinstall. Unfortunately if you need to run the Norton Removal tool this will occur. This way you wont have to create a new backup set and will not end up in this state. We are working on the issue for the next release.
I am a little surprised to hear others say this as I thought I had noticed 360 V3 taking a minute or two longer to show up in the task icon area of the screen. If you find it to be anything related to 360 may I request that you post it here or in the forum and/or leave me a PM as I would be happy to figure out why Norton is taking longer to show up.
If I may say I find this kind of information invaluable. To see acknowledgement of an issue and to be updated on it is something I am grateful for, when it happens. And although this is one of the much smaller issues I am experiencing it is nice after going through the Help & Support part of 360, having an open thread here and contacting email support to have some idea of what is possible to do with multiple but same named backup sets and to know that the issue is being looked at.
And just to clarify, I believe that when you say that it is not possible to delete a backup set itself it is being referred to when speaking of the Norton Backup Drive? As most (not necessarily older, from say V2) backups can be deleted that were created through 360 V3 in the program itself.
Can I also have my backups cleared too. I have many from older versions of N360. What would you need to be able to do this? Please let me know as this would really help. Thanks.
If you have not already emailed someone, you can send the email directly to me and I will get it taken care of. In order to view your account we need either the product key or product serial number which you can find in the N360 client under the about pane or online at https://www.mynortonaccount.com.
I have a question that was spawned by message #10 of this thread.
I have an issue with IDSAFE forgetting log-ins (they just disappear for good). Atleast in the cards & log-ins feature in the browser (In the Norton button on the browser and accessing Manage Log-ins therein it appears to remember all of the log-in information).
The part where you mention that using the Norton Removal Tool will save the settings, therefore should I uninstall 360 V3 and then re-install it without running the NRT? And if IDSAFE still does not ends up forgettings some log-ins is there anyone I can turn to for more instructions? (I believe I already ran uninstall once without the NRT but it is hard to remember all the things I have tried thus far to fix the issue :)).
If you use the uninstall of the product your settings for IDD should remain as well as your backup settings along with other specified options in the unisntall dialog. You will have the option for a custom or full uninstall which will either save or delete settings. Using NRT like I said will not save any settings as it was designed to remove everything.
