How to disable auto-sign-in of Norton Account in Norton 360

I power my computer, it loads everything including Norton 360. When i go into norton 360, it says i am already logged into my Norton account.

I do NOT want this to happen.

When I want to log into my Norton accountI, I want to be prompted   to enter my email and password.

So how do I disable automatic sign-in of my Norton account?

Unless of course I am mistaken, I believe you may perhaps misunderstand. The log in to which you refer is not a log in to your One account or your mynorton(Norton) account. That is a separate matter. You are logged in my virtue that N360 has been activated and subscribed to your email account. It is a function of the product key and completing details at subscription. Neither is the log in shown in the main UI anything to do with the Vault login.

Well with this login, anyone can click on Norton 360, Account, Access Norton Account, Profile, and they have all my crdentials.

Major security hole.

Basically anyone who starts my computer will  automatically be logged in to Norton 360 and can have access to all my personal info.

There has to be a way to turn this off. There is actually an option to sign out or change user.

So there must be a way to turn off auto-sign in.

Help.

And not only can they get all my credentials, but apparently also my security question and answer as well as they can change my password cause theres a link for that too.

The security  hole is huge!

Certainly there is a way for me to disable auto-login???

Sorry I think we are talking about different things. You might consider posting exactly what you are referring to. I thought you were referring to the login on the Norton 360 UI, but now I think you actually mean the Norton Account which can be accessed via account in Norton 360. But that only opens your browser and takes you to either mynorton or one.norton.com. I dont see autosign in.

1. Open Norton 360

2. Look at the top-right of Norton 360 UI, it will say "you are logged in as: email address"

This is the Login  I'm talking about.

You can then click on

1.Account (top right)

2.Access Norton Account (top left)

3.Profile (top right)

And you will see your Address, billing information, security question, password.

The problem is that when I boot my computer,  it loads Norton 360 with that profile already signed in, so potentially anyone could easily have access to all this information.

I want to have to enter my email and password everytime. I do NOT want it to load it automatically like its doing now.

I thought this would be an easy fix, I mean you would think that I'm not the only one with this auto-login issue and it would pose a huge security risk for many other Norton users too, so I'm surprised no one has found a solution yet.....comon people theres gotta be a way to do this.

ok I SOLVED THE PROBLEM.

i iUNnstalled Norton family, not sure that did anything.

I UNinstalled Norton management, and restarted my computer two times and the problem went away.

Apparently Norton  management was logging me in automatically.

Thanks to all that looked into this.

Yep,  I had the same thing with N360v6 and Norton Management.  As soon as I uninstalled NM the "logged in as..." disappeared.

You didn't actually need to uninstall anything.

To Log Off:

  1. Open Norton 360.
  2. On the upper right hand area of the interface, you will see a 'Manage' icon.
  3. Click the Manage icon and the Norton Management Welcome interface will open.
  4. If you are logged in to Norton, you will see a 'Log out' link that you can use to log you out of your Norton Account.

Be aware that if you are a user of the online version of the Identity Safe vault, then you will see the same 'Logged in as...' information in the main Norton 360 user interface whenever you open your online vault. You will need to follow the same process listed above to log out of your Norton Account.

Unfortunatly, I restarted my computer again and its logging into Norton all by itself again.

THE PROBLEM HAS NOT BEEN FIXED.

Oh and the other guy who tried to explain how to log off, dude read the posts, thats not the problem here.

This is pathetic

The Norton product is flawed because this is a huge security hole.

I'm mad at myself for paying for this because you pay thinking you get premium security but instead I get this.

I'm just fed up with this issue, I take it there is no solution cause by now some of you coputer wizz's would have figured out the problem.

So seems like the problem is the Norton software itself. What a waste of money.

FWIW, I did a bit of research thru my notes and past posting by Norton employees in regards to the Norton Account and staying logged in and the tie in between Norton Account and Norton Management.

The following is what I found.  Please bear in mind some of the quotes are off topic - but lend informatin to the topic at hand:

  • To answer your question, NO - you cannot be logged into your Online vault all the time and you will be in logged in state untill you reboot the machine. This is mainly done for the security purpose and you cannot keep the vault open all the time. Instead, you can stay logged into your Norton Account all the time even after reboot by which you are bypassing the first login step and you are required to just enter the Vault password alone to stay logged in.
  • First thing i would like to make it clear is, as mentioned by Bruce(Yank) and you, when you are logged into your Norton Account on one machine it stays logged in after restarts. And when you are moving to your second machine it doesn't stay connected to your Norton Account by default and you have to login once to make it stay in the logged in state.
  • As per the current design, NSS users will not be able to use the Identity safe cloud free app as Bruce pointed out its tied up to Norton Account. And the "throwaway" i.e. temporary Norton account would help only if the product is NIS/N360 where user would already have a Norton Account tied with the product and wants to use a new norton account to carry the vault. This would not help NSS customers either.  <BTW NSS is the Comcst version of N 360>
  • There is also a thread pertaining to this topic titled: Vault Auto Login to N360 UI Issue, and located here:  http://community.norton.com/t5/Norton-Toolbar-Norton-Identity/Vault-Auto-Login-to-N360-UI-Issue/m-p/800552/highlight/true#M3453

Now, all that said and done I did some testing on my own.  I followed elsewhere's instructions in this post:

http://community.norton.com/t5/Norton-360/How-to-disable-auto-sign-in-of-Norton-Account-in-Norton-360/m-p/871636/highlight/true#M83518

After I clicked on the Log Out, I watched the logged in as XXXXXXX@XXXXX disappear from the top of the splash page, shut everything down and selected restart.

Upon restart,  l opened  my Norton product, did not see the "logged in as" at the top of the splash page.  I then opened my IE9, and attempted to open my Vault.  It threw a prompt to log into my Local Vault or if I desired to sync ID Safe with other computers to log into my Norton Account - which I did.  As soon as I logged into my Norton Account, the "logged in as" appeared on the top of the splash screen, and there was a request for my Online Vault password.

I repeated this procedure several times and it worked the same way everytime.

So the bottom line to me is that if Wentviral does not want other users to access his Norton Account, they need to log out of Management as elsewhere suggested prior to shutting down or anytime they leave the system on and walk away from it.

It is obvious Wentviral feels strongly enough about this situation that perhaps making a suggestion on the Product Suggestions Board  would get his concerns heard by Norton.

Thanks Yank, given  the quality of your post, I can tell you are an intelligent individual. You demonstrated you understood the problem and that there is no solution (except logging-off every time).

What the software engineers need to do is make the "Norton account" login work like the "Online vault" login works so that it's always necessary after a reboot.

Furthermore, they need to add a similar option to the Norton "Account login" like the login for "Online vault" where you can choose between logging in once per session or every time you want to use it.

Now that would solve the problem.

Until then, this software has a huge security hole and there's no way around it.
