How to fully disable/turn-off the NIS program during gaming?

I have a problem:

Before doing gaming, I completely turn-off all the NIS modules, but during gameplay, hitting some particular button, like, "enter" brings me to the desktop with the NIS icon appearing on the taskbar. Then, I have to click on the running game icon on the taskbar to enter into full screen mode again.

This is very annoying, and is driving me nuts.

I don't want any type of interference during gaming.

Now, don't tell me that turning-off the NIS will keep me vulnerable to threats because my internet connection is always off while gaming.

Please, help me!

OS: Windows 7 Professional x86.

Software: NIS 2010.

Hi FarGuddu,

There is no need -and it is not recommended - to turn off Norton when you game. You can turn on Silent Mode in order to game without disturbance. Right-click on the Norton icon in the system tray and click on "Turn on silent mode". If you game in full-screen mode, then NIS will automatically turn on Silent Mode. This will be indicated by the Norton icon turning into a crescent-shaped icon; you can see what it looks like over here in Phil_D's post:

Doesn't work either!

First try what Yaso suggested (turn on the Silent Mode by right clicking on the icon tray). If that can not help, do this:

1. Turn off Norton Tamper Protection (Main window -> Settings -> Miscellaneous Settings -> Product Security -> Norton Product Tamper Protection must be OFF)
2. Open Task Manager (right click on the superbar)
3. Click on the View all users' processes button

4. On the list find ccsvchst.exe (there will be 2 instances)

5. Select them, and click on Stop process

This way the NIS process will be completely off.

6. When you are done gaming, to enable NIS2010 you have to reboot the computer.

If you use this game a lot, you can turn off completely the Tamper Protection, but then Norton will have a little security hole on it's self-protection. It is advised to use the Until next reboot option.

Let us know the results.

Silent Mode didn't work, but turning-off the program completely was the only solution to my problem.

Thanks!

FarGuddu, you shouldn't have to disable the product but I suspect that you are running into the UI Full Screen Bug that is being discussed. Is your version 17.5?

Yes, I have the version 17.5 installed on my system.

It surely is a bug. Hope Symantec fixes it soon!
