Hi there, I am also having this problem where my system will go into idle mode and Norton kicks on. After returning to my system, Norton just keeps chugging along and taking around 30-40% of my cpu. Never has it shut itself off at any time after I come back and bring the system out of idle, the norton tasks graph clearly shows this. I have had this problem since December, then updated, and now have it again in March.
December 2009-
and after updating and having this problem now, in March-
Also, the Idle timeout doesn't work at all, also shown in the graph, my computer is on for only 10 minutes and an idle state begins and Nortone starts immediately (idle timeout is set for 30 minutes, so does this mean it would start 30min after system idle, or wait to being idling after 30 minutes?) either way, this does not make any actual change.
I have been in 3 seperate chats with support, all ending with "your problem is now solved" all during the time that this continuous norton process is running and never stopping. I am already up to version 17.5.0.127, and after updating to that, there was only about 6 weeks of relief before the problem returned.
I have to confess, that support seems not not know or really take any actions which reflect their understanding of this problem or process, and I am quickly becoming dissatisfied with any results of contacting support.
How do we get Norton to STOP this background/idle scan when the system comes back out of an idle state???
[edit: Clarified subject.]
Thanks in advance!
