How to Get Rid of "Register NIS" Fly-In?

Among the many benefits Symantec has inflicted on us with NIS 2012 is a small fly-in box in the lower right corner that appears every couple of weeks, urging me to register my copy, for all the benefits it will bring. Also, whenever I open the main NIS screen, I get another screen urging me to register. This dialog can't be closed and necessitates going to Task Manager to get rid of it.

Since I've had NIS for years and never registered it--or seen any need to--I have to wonder why the typical corporate-overreach approach is surfacing now. Does anyone know how to prevent this fly-in box from appearing periodically (and preferably how to keep the larger dialog from appearing when I open the main NIS screen)?

Note to Symantec: If you give us the option to register, why do you pester us if we choose not to? If there's no way to stop this, you can expect I'll switch to another product. Microsoft has tried endless variations on this and alienated a lot of former customers. And there are a lot more alternatives to NIS than to Windows.

I gave you a working suggestion a month ago when you asked the same question.

Those fly-in's/pop-up's are quite annoying, aren't they?

The notifications are every two weeks, it seems, so they are copable.  Sometimes I had to click twice on the "x" to close it.

The larger panel/window appears when one opens the main panel AND is online.  The key is not to open the main panel while one is online.  When the fly-in does occur, I usually slide the window off-screen until I'm off-line to deal with the fly-in.  For those who are always online, that is a problem.

To suggest capitulation as the only solution is so ... Borg-ish.

As Dave has said -- welcome back with the same question so here's what I said back then:

(Nice to have a name -- reminds me of The Prisoner ! )

As Dave indicates there can be a difference between Registration and in this case recording your KEY and Norton details in a MyNortonAccount.

I go way back and I'm used to those post cards to Register my purchase that fed the marketing department and never filled them in unless I saw a benefit to me by doing so.

But I certainly don't mind recording essential data about my software that, in the case of Norton, greatly simplifies reinstallation and dealing with problems if I run into the "exceeded number of permitted activations" that can happen.

Norton does have controls in the software to turn of some kinds of nagging so I'd suggest you let it make the MyNortonAccount and learn here how to turn off any reminders you may want.

Dave and Hugh -- thanks, I saw your responses, but, as neigh-ho-ma says, you advocated capitulation. I don't want to use a fake address or register at all. I've never had to before, and I'm not going to do it now. If it's not possible to disable the nag screens, Symantec will lose me as a customer.

dickevans, thanks for the link, but it doesn't work. If I try to go there, I get a 550 error, no such file or directory. Part of the URL didn't make it into the link, but even copying and pasting the whole thing, it doesn't work. If I leave, you may be here, but I won't need you--if I have a problem, I'll be posting in the Kaspersky forum or whatever. Thanks anyway.

As for the name, I think it's the minimum necessary to post here, and I wish I hadn't even had to do that.

You know, I wouldn't even care if they made registration mandatory. But if they give us a choice and then nag us, it's strictly low-class.

Believe me I'm not a capitulator ... I'm one of the awkward squad if ever there was.

I did not capitulate; I differentiated from registering for the benefit of marketing and creating a MyNortonAccount for technical reasons that benefit me even if they also provide a benefit to Norton -- my email address.
