I have NIS version 18.6.0.29 and I'm trying to open port 443 so that Google Apps Sync can run (or at least that's what Google Apps support is saying today). I've found other instructions on here for opening ports, but I don't seem to have the same options as those listed in those instructions. When I click on 'Settings', I then select 'Network Settings' to get to the SMART FIREWALL options. I have 2 CONFIGURE buttons, one next to 'Advanced Settings' and one next to 'Program Control'. When I click on the CONFIGURE next to 'Advanced Settings', I don't have the ADD button like the other instructions on here have indicated. When I click on the CONFIGURE next to 'Program Control', there is an ADD button, but I have to enter the path to an executable file (.exe) saved on my computer. The instructions I've found seem to indicate that after the ADD button, I should just have to click on ALLOW then NEXT in the 'Add Rule Wizard', and a few steps later I enter the URL or website name that my program is attempting to connect to. Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Hello KathyG
Welcome to the Norton Community Forum
With a current subscription for NIS 2011, you are entitled to a free upgrade to NIS 2012. Doing the upgrade may help in solving your problem also. You probably found instructions for NIS 2012. If this program is listed in your program listings, then the Smart Firewall should open up the port when it is necessary to use that program.
If you want to upgrade to NIS 2012, please back up your identity safe file and if you are having no problems with NIS 2011, then you can install NIS 2012 right on top of NIS 2011.

Please remember to run live update to get all updates and then reboot once more. Thanks.

Please come back and let us know how you made out. Thanks.
Hi Floplot, thank you for the suggestions, but it did not work for me. I've updated to NIS 19.1.1.3 and I'm getting the same results. I'm again asked to enter the path to an executable file (.exe) saved on my computer. Any other thoughts or suggestions?
Hi KathyG,
Are you having an issue with Google Apps Sync? The Norton Smart FIrewall should create rules automatically for this program to connect. Open Program Control and check that Google Apps Sync is listed and that its access permission shows as "Auto." If this is the case, then the firewall should not be blocking the program from connecting.
Hello Kathy
Please continue to run live update as you do not have the latest version installed now. Try rebooting to get the rest of the updates to come thru. Thanks.
