How to protect an XPM on a Windows 7 Professional computer

I recently purchased a computer, and ordered Win7 Pro to have the ability to set up a Windows XP virtual machine in it.  I have some older programs and games that are not compatible with the 64bit nature of Windows 7.

I like using NIS to protect the Windows 7 part of my system, but the Windows 7 docs I have read tell me that I also need anti-virus and anti-malware protection for the XPM (virtual machine).  What's the easiest way to do that?

Must I purchase another copy of NIS to protect the virtual machine?  Or use on of the 3 downloads I am allowed to protect the XPM?  I suppose it's too much to hope for that my existing subscription would cover both "halves" of my computer.
