XP with SP3 is installed on SATA HDD, when I run Norton Ghost to create image, which require to work under DOS environment, it hangs. When I boot up with win98 under DOS mode, and find no drive at all. I assume no SATA HDD can be recognized under DOS environment, does anyone have any suggestions on how to solve this issue? If not, I cannot run Norton Ghost at all.
Ghost 2003 supports most SATA drives but full support wan't added until the later versions. I don't know how to update it but I recall a post here on changing live update to use the archive server and then using live update.
If thats still possible, I have no idea.
Another problem you may be having is if your using a combination of ATA and SATA drives.
DOS has a limitation in how many device ports it can access. My Asus has a BIOS setting for the drives and one of the options is "legacy" support where you pick the devices that can be accessed.
I think you can have either both ATA ports only or one of the ATA posts and one of the SATA ports.
Yes, like I said, the later versions of Ghost 2003 support most SATA drives.
In my BIOS I have a setting under IDE configuration that can be changed from "enhanced" to "compatable"
It then says compatable is for legacy OS's (Includes DOS)
But since your motherboard only has SATA it might not apply to you, on my system the limitation for legacy systems is 4 devices and since PATA can have 2 on each connector and it has 2 SATA ports then that could make a total of 6 devices. Thats why mine has a way of choosing the connectors to limit legacy OS's to 4.
Let me see if I can find the post or KB article about updating Ghost 2003.
The last version is 2003.793 (build 793)
You can find your version by double clicking the Ghost executable. It will not run inside windows but it will create a ghosterror.txt file in the same folder that gives the build number.
