How to recover my lost hard drive!?

Our computer crashed and I reformatted our computer because I was under the impression that I wouldn't be able to recover all of our lost files and pictures. However a friend told me about Norton, and how there could be a program to recover the data.

So is it possible to recover all of the files and pictures after I have already reformatted the computer? If so, how would I go about doing it and with what program. Thank you!

There is no current Symantec tool. The answer also depends on how you formatted the drive and what you have done since. In simple terms a quick format of the hard drive may just clear the table or index of files, but the files themselves still exist on the drive it is just that the index to them has been deleted.

There are tools for unformatting a hard drive and you can google for these. However, it is important that you understand that recovery is difficult at best and that you must meanwhile not use the hard drive as otherwise the data will be overwritten.

Yes, don't use the drive. Once the files get overwritten they are gone.

Here is my favorite tool, it's a little pricey but you can use it as a free trial to see whats still recoverable.

Here is a free program, I personally never used it but I have heard good things about it.
