How to run NIS from HDD with SSD as boot drive

I recently installed a Samsung 840 250GB SSD. on an HP Envy Phoenis 800, i7 4th gen, 16GB, 2TB HDD, Win8.1 Pro 64 bit system. (-HP would not guarantee installation of the Samsung drive which is why I deferred- This, of course, presented several issues when the Samsung drive arrived and was installed)

The SSD is up and running. The issue - will NIS run from the HDD, and if so, how do I set it to auto start on boot? NIS came with the computer with a one year license. When I go into my Norton account it does not show up. It is activated. I have used Norton for many, many years (and spent way too many hours troubleshooting several of its past iterations-but still with the program).

I've tried linking the start module (nis.ese) to the start menu on the SSD without success. This has worked with other programs and also worked in the past with various HDD arrays.

Likely a simple answer that eludes me. That happens way too frequently these days :)
