How to stop receiving the email notifications for messages

I followed the instruction to halt e-mail notifications of each message in a thread but when I got to my subscriptions there were none. Yet I am getting notices for each post from the thread that was initiated on my behalf. I guess eventually the thread will die and I will not get any further e-mail notifications but is there some way I can halt them given I could not get the instruction method to work - or I totally misunderstand how to do it.

OK. I had not used the drop down box. I did as was last suggested and I see now that this should halt the e-mail notifications.
