I have a problem with the Windows 10 Automatic Update process (who doesn't) and the MS Support Forum suggested that I switch of any "third party" firewall and antivirus, allow Windows Defender to take over, and check whether the problem persists. A Chat with one of the Norton Support operatives advised me that this could only be achieved by un-installing Norton. This seems a bit drastic when I only want to inhibit it temporarily. Using the slider switches in the settings menu only puts Norton in a "snooze" state which does not release control to Windows Defender.
