I have been using Norton Antivirus 2008 for a while now. I upgraded to 2009 some time back, but after countless hassles, I went back to 2008. I then started getting notices telling me to upgrade to 2009. New and improved. I said what the heck, it may have gotten better. Bad move. Very bad move.
I am planning to go back again to 2008, but before I do or simply get rid of Norton which I have used for several year, I am hoping someone can help me out. I have been visiting and using a Russian website for several years. Today, Norton blocked the site. Nothing short of excluding the HTTP Malicious Toolkit Variant Activity signature allowed the site to show up. On my Mac it shows up just fine. I have put up with Norton tagging everything on my computer as a virus, but this was the final straw. This site is a trusted site as far as I am concerned.
All I want to do is stop this site from being blocked. The site URL is not important. It is a community and a trusted one. I am willing to take the chance that the evil folks at this site are planning to take over my computer. Amazingly Norton claims there are no false positives with this signature. Norton claims to give you options to exclude sites and intrusions etc., but once Norton 2009 is installed, it seems to size control of your computer and insist it knows what is best for you. Emailing Norton sends you to India where you get a polite response that solves nothing.
Simple question; can I unblock a website without excluding the HTTP Malicious Toolkit Variant Activity signature, which might expose me to other threats?
Thanks.
Rick.
