Huge 3gb 7z files in two NortonInstaller directories!

Issue abstract: Two 3gb 7z files in NortonInstaller directories on my system

Detailed description: I’m trying to upgrade to Windows 11 and running out of space. I ran a program to find big files on my system and was shocked to see two 3gb files in C:\ProgramData\NortonInstaller\Settings and C:\Users\All Users\NortonInstaller\Settings. Both of them are named {0C55C096-0F1D-4F28-AAA2-85EF591126E7}.7z and dated 1/1/2025. What are these for and why do I have one, not to mention TWO of them? I found earlier discussions about the file being left over after uninstalling Norton, but I don’t see the need to have them when I’m active user, either. Is there any reason why I need to have either of them on my system???

Product & version number: Norton 360 25.7.10308 (build 25.7.10308.945)

OS details: Windows 10

What is the error message you are seeing?

If you have any supporting screenshots, please add them:

@misterbill Checking both my Windows 10 and 11 machines, both having the latest Norton version installed. I do NOT see those files anywhere on either system. These are not on my systems and they both function correctly, I also cannot answer your questions regarding “what” they are there for, and why there are two. Have you uninstalled Norton in the past and did so WITHOUT utilizing the Norton removal tool and doing so through Windows installed programs? That could be one reason why these are still remaining.

I would suggest removal of both files, and suggest doing so is at your own risk as well. Again, I have validates these are NOT present on Windows 10 Pro or Windows 110 Pro machines

Better yet, I would use the current removal tool for version 24/25.xx and perform a “removal only” with the advanced part of the remover, remove Norton 360. When rebooted, manually find any and all folders named Norton. Symantec or Avast and delete them. Reboot again. Download Norton 360 again from your Norton account, reinstall. That should solve the issue without any after the fact issues with remnant files.

Sorry, didn’t do anything yet. Amusingly, I just upgraded to Windows 11 and found another copy of the file in the newly created windows.old directory. That one I deleted. The only reason I found the files was because I was clearing disk space to do the upgrade. I’ve rebooted enough for now, so I won’t bother removing and reinstalling Norton, for now.
