With time on my hands over the New Year. Time to change out my irritating McAfee, for one of my spare NIS licences. I downloaded the NIS Installer to the desktop, the Norton Removal Tool, the McAfee Removal Tool, enough stuff to complete the change out.
Disconnected my PC from the NET. Add/Remove McAfee, ran the McAfee Removal Tool a couple of times: restarts, etc. All going fine.
Reconnected to the NET. Ran the NIS Installer. The install stalled at 13%, the disk activity led was still flashing; so, I sat on my hands, and waited for it to finish, or a failure flag. 5 hours later, the job completed. The install had problems that "LiveUpdate" or "Support" could not fix. (No, I didn't leave the PC online, unguarded for 5 hours.)
I have never used the Norton "Removal/Reinstall Tool". The removal took a while; the reinstall was magic, 10 minutes max. Ran LiveUpdates to completion. Tested all the NIS facilities, OK. Ran "Support", the NPE, QuickScan, FullScan: All OK. ALL IS WELL !
My PC is quicker at Bootup, sharper in use. Instead of discarding it to history, it's now sharp as a new pin, a new lease of life.
Best of all I have a new patience, that I never knew existed.
Be safe out there ! Enjoy 2015. AK
