I am about to purchase a Dell Venue 8 Pro 8" Tablet with windows 8.1 32 bit would Norton 360 work?

This has 1.8GHz Intel Atom Z3740D processor and 2GB DDR3L of system memory

Since I have one available install remaining I am hoping to e able to use it on this tablet. Or do I need something else?

I bought one a couple weeks ago and I love it.  It runs amazingly well.

I have not loaded Norton onto yet but there is no reason why it would not work.

Some of the desktop screens are very hard to navigate by touch because of the small screen, you should consider getting the Dell sylus to go along with it.

Hi caronhalt

It should work but the RAM at 2gb may have some issues.  Try it and see, use the process below to install the latest version 21.1.0.18, which is compatible with windows 8.1.

You need to remove any other security software including any trial security software completely before installing Norton.

On the computer you would like to install Norton on

You need to set some internet security so windows defender and windows firewall and then get up dates and recheck for updates until there are no more updates restarting as requested.  If you have windows 7 or above then Norton will manage the windows security automatically if its windows vista or below then check to see if you need to manually disable windows defender and windows firewall after installing Norton.

Conflict in security software can be the cause of various issues even if the security software has been uninstalled the debris left on the system needs to be removed with the removal tool for the specific security software.

Use the process below to remove your previous security programme.  You’ll need to download and save the removal tool from the security software’s main website or use the singularlabs website on the link below and choose from the list.

http://singularlabs.com/uninstallers/security-software

Uninstall using windows add/remove programme.

Restart the computer.

Run the removal tool.

Restart the computer.

This process should be performed for each security software to be uninstalled, meaning one at a time.  If you have previously uninstalled then the removal tool needs to be run and the computer restarted.

To install Norton.

Log into Norton management on the link below using your Norton account email address and password, click on my account, click on product details, make a note of your current Norton product key from this page.

https://manage.norton.com

Click on the add device tab at the top of the page, click the yellow download button and save the down load, launch the Norton installer and follow the prompts to activate it, run live updates as many times as it takes to get, no more live updates, restarting as requested.

Additional information.

Norton allows product user licences to be removed from the Norton account so that user licence can be used again on the same or a different computer, if the current subscription is active.

Log into Norton management on the link below using your Norton account email address and password, click on my account, click on product details, identify the licence you want to remove by the computers name under device name, on that line click on the trashcan (bin) this will free up the key but it may have a time delay before it becomes available.

If you have any questions please ask before starting.

2GB of RAM is plenty.

I'll give some easier to follow instructions on what you need to do.

1) install Norton 360

2) run live update and then enter your key.

Thats all you need to do

Green with envy .... <g>

I checked the Dell website and you had these options:

No Anti-virus Requested   --- Included in Price

McAfee LiveSafe 12 month subscription  --- +$40.00

McAfee LiveSafe 24 month subscription --- +$79.00

so hopefully you saved the money and avoided having anything preinstalled but it would be prudent to check -- Desktop / Control Panel / Programs & Features .... -- to make sure they didn't include a free trial period.

There have been reports of Windows 8/8.1 saying Norton is not installed when it is in fact and is running to protect you. If you run into this do come back because I think there was an update either from Microsoft or Norton to fix this. Someone else will know for sure.

If you do your installation from the Norton Management app you will get a more recent version and it will be preactivated so you don't have to worry about the key.

Why would a Norton user pay extra and wait longer for it to come with McAfee?

You really don't want to buy it from Dell anyway, you can get a better price right now at any retail store.  Some may still have them deeply discounted from black friday.

I can assure you it's not going to come with any AV installed unless you pay for it.  The system came with a very low amount of junk and no trial software.

My only suggestions are to get the 64GB version and a stylus to go along with it.

You also need a micro to full size USB adapter if you want to plug in flash drives or other USB devices.

Dell also sells the 64GB model at a better price through Amazon.

Thats where I ordered mine.  I actually ordered it before the release date and was given a delivery day for a couple days later.  Then Dell sent me an email saying that they would ship all orders early enough so they are recieved on the release day.

:smileyhappy:I'm not getting it from Dell, but from a retailer. I'll load 360 on it after I check for any other AV program.

This has been very helpfull
