I got migrated to the Norton Backup system when my old @backup service company went out of business. The old service backed up based on file folders. In case of a crash or need to refresh to a new computer, it restored all those folders to a single desktop icon, so I would then need to cut-and-paste folders back where I wanted them. I had to do it once, when a computer crashed and I had to buy a new one. It was cumbersome, but it brought back a true picture of what had been on my old computer.
I noticed that Norton backed up via file name extensions when I first set it up, but saw that there was a proper tree of folders, so didn't worry. I saw the tree of folders when I went to the "purge" step inside my account.
Just today, because I may need to migrate from my current computer to a new one soon, I went into my My Documents folder on Norton (I used the "purge" action step to find my folder tree) to open it up and see what is in Norton right now. This look at My Documents was just to be a "spot check". Yikes!!! It has all my current files, but a ton of files that I've deleted over the years. I can't imagine how to go into thousands of files and over 1,000 photos and try to make it match with what is currently on my computer! And, I absolutely don't want to migrate to a new computer using this mess of files from my latest backup.
Is there a way to backup by "computer image" or by folder instead of by file extension? Doing it by file extension is clearly not noticing when a file has been deleted on my actual computer. This current way of backing up is not a true reflection of my computer!
