I cannot uninstall NIS from my old computer

Dear forum,

I have recently bought a new PC and need to uninstall NIS from my old PC to free up a license to enable me to install NIS on the new one.

The problem is, although I can still get internet access on my old PC, when I try to uninstall NIS, it fails to get a connection with 'Symantec' and I end up having to abort the uninstall.

The same problem arises when I try to access my account from my old PC or support/help. It keeps giving me messages around lack of internet connection, which is clearly not the case as I can open a browser and access the internet without any problem.

Additional context: I bought my new PC from a local company, who built it from scratch and transferred all my files from my old PC to the new one in the process (this is my 3rd machine from them without any problem). I wonder if something has gone astray during the file transfer process. In hindsight, I probably should have uninstalled NIS before surrendering my old PC, but forgot!

Any help appreciated.

Best regards

Martyn

https://www-secure.symantec.com/norton/support/contact/chat/norton-chat.jsp?chatexp=cs&dept=cs&pvid=&pid=cs&layout=

also Norton Does not usually Ask for net connection for uninstallations

as for Norton account goes well Few days back quite a few were not able to open it up,seemed that the Server was down or something similar!

If you really do want to get rid of Norton

then you could use the removal tool

Using removal tool without uninstalling the product from Add/Remove is not the right method please run the removal tool twice and restart prompted

Hello cartermm

Here is the link for NIS 2011 which you can use to install NIS 2011 on your new computer. I'm not sure that moving NIS to the new computer is really the best idea. There will be a time difference and some files may have changed by then even if you run live update. If NIS 2011 was moved over, you may find that you will have to reinstall NIS to get the best results.

Please run live update until no more updates and then reboot.

Please come back and let us know how you made out. Thanks.

Thanks for your response.

I contacted customer support and they transferred the license and loaded NIS 2011 for me. Didn't realise it would be that simple! All working perfectly.

Cheers
